Way to go, Ender!!!
Running is not my one of my strengths, but the Army says we have to do it..... My husband, who is a speed demon, suggests varying your training with a "sprint" day and a "long" day. He's awesome, so I guess it's worked for him. (I must admit that I've been too lazy to to try it for myself). I'm trying to get a group of girls in my Unit to do a 5K with me in September. Keep up the good work!

Hey, thanx guys!
GIJami, how long is a "long" day? I'm on a five day split (and so far only one day of cardio on my cardio day) so I'm not sure when I'd be able to work that in... |

GREAT JOB Ender!!!!
I am so glad you asked a question that I feel somewhat "educated" about! I run competitively, i.e. marathons, 10ks, etc.... YES it is difficult to combine the two goals of running and bodybuilding.....but like Krypto said....you have to PRIORITIZE....figure out which goal is most important and direct your focus to it. That doesn't mean let the other slip...just pay more attention to one. I have several different training regimes I follow....some for endurance and some for speed. I get alot of training schedules off the internet and found that Hal Higdon has some good advice for all types of runners here's the site: http://www.halhigdon.com/. Good luck with your goal!!!! |

Yeah, I've gone to Hal's site in the past and its a good one! Thanx for the link! I'll go check it out again after I workout.
My priority is DEFINITELY weight lifting for the moment. Running is one thing I'd like to do, in that I want to raise my time EVENTUALLY to 7-8 minutes per mile (during cardio sessions only), but for a 10K or half-marathon distance I think 9 min/mile is fine. So, I don't care about being super fast at running, just average. And I've never run in a race so I don't really even care about times so much as actually entering and completing a race, ya know? I'm hoping to get to under 9min/mile by the time school starts, but I'm not going to heart broken if I don't make it. However, I'm hoping to gain some muscle this summer and I WILL be heartbroken if I don't do that! |
