Don't use PB in post workout shake. Fats will slow down digestion and you won't be needing fat post workout. Just use whey and some simple sugars instead.

Darn, too late today. Oh well. I was going to put a tablespoon of honey in it, but I thought the PB would be better since I was looking around on the recipe forum and saw it posted as a good protien shake recipe.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely switch from PB to honey now.

You might want to switch from honey to something else. Although it will certaintly spike your insulin, as fructose, it will only refill your livel glycogen stores. Try to use sucrose or dextrose, so that the muscle glycogen can be filled up instead.

Yesterday was great! I did most of the exercises outlined for day one of the 13-week, along with the outlines rep number, and it killed my chest and back, so I'm really sore today! First time that my upper back has ever been sore. It makes me happy!

I didn't do the superset thing for any of those though, except for incline bench where I super setted with close-grip pull downs.

I really can't wait until I actually start the 13-week in full. As I said yesterday, right now I'm just going to take a couple of weeks and use the exercises so I can learn how to perform them properly and get myself ready.

I can tell already that this program is going to rock. I felt like I wasn't going to make it through yesterday's workout because of the intensity, and that's good.

Today I just did some cardio and ab work. I'm too sore to lift. Tomorrow is bi/tri/for day, and I already can't wait!

You only have 3-4 meals a day? I would up that to 6, even if they are small protien shakes with flax.

Here is an excellent quote from the nutrition section to explain the importance of meal frequency.
[ QUOTE ]
I don't know where 3 square meals a day came from but I believe that this is one of the main reasons most people end up storing fat in the first place! The typical modern day diet consists of a donut for breakfast, a medium sized lunch and a monster dinner with dessert afterwards. Basically we end out starving ourselves all day when our bodies desperately need nutrients and then chow down at night right before we pass out. The key to true fat loss is to constantly feed your body throughout the day. Not 3 or even four meals a day will do, you need to spread your calories out over 6 balanced meals. I know what a lot of you are thinking at this point, " I don't have time to eat 5 to 6 meals a day" The plain fact of the matter is this, if you want a spectacular looking body you are going to have to be willing to go the extra mile. It is that plain and simple. There are several reasons why I advocate 6 meals a day. These are just a few of them:

1. Our bodies temperature rises in response to the digestion of food. When our temperature rises we end out burning calories at a higher rate. Otherwise our metabolic rate increases. The term for this is thermogenious. Think about it, your temperature rises every time you eat, this alone is worth eating 6 meals a day.

2. Larger meals are more likely to be stored as fat. If you eat 6six 400 calorie meals instead of 3 800 calorie meals your body will use the food as energy instead of storing what is left over as fat.

3. Time and time again, diabetic research has proven the benefits of a more stable blood-sugar level, optimal absorption of food, and an increased metabolic rate, all a result of ingesting more balanced meals as opposed to stuffing more into each meal.

4. If we eat more often we will trick our bodies into believing that we are not starving it, therefore our thyroid levels will not drastically drop in response to our reduction of calories.

5. Now consider the exponential benefits eating more meals would have on your ability to recuperate from intense workouts.

I've neglected this journal for a few days. Sorry!

Yesterday was bi/tri/for day, and my biceps are really hurting today.

Again, I did the exercises outlined in the 13-week.

I really loved doing incline db bicep curls. The 1 arm db preacher curls were harder than doing regular bicep curls, so I had to lower the weight I was using to 15, then 12 because I couldn't get the 15's up after a while. Sort of depressing, but my strength isn't completely back to where it was at the beginning of April, which is sort of discouraging and encouraging at the same time. It's making me work even harder to get back to where I was before my "slump" and then shoot for getting further than where I was.

I also forgot about the great natural high you get from not cheating as much or as badly in eating. I felt so good today because last night i didnt cheat (unless eating pineapple chicken at a mexican restauraunt counts... but all I ate was the chicken with some sour cream and a few corn chips beforehand). I've been doing good compared to a week ago, and that makes me happy.

Today, I'm hoping, is leg day. I haven't looked at the program yet, so I'm not sure right now.

I'll post my workout when I get home tonight.

I hope to be so sore tomorrow that I won't be able to walk normal.
