Speaking of those fitness magazines... I think just about everyone I have looked at is 80-90% fad "magic diet pill" products that they're pushing in people's faces. I was reading one a few weeks ago and there was an add for some pill that supposedly made this guy lose all his body fat (almost) in three days. Come on... everyone knows that's impossible.
A lot of the stuff in them is crap but I still can't help but buy them anyways. It's just fun to laugh at the millions of bogus ads I guess.

Back when I was just beginning to experiment with weights, I thought Oxygen magazine was really good. This was a few years ago when it was only published 4x/ year, and I just couldn't wait until the next issue came out- seemed to take forever!! I've been a subscriber since way back then. M&FHers was the same way in the beginning. It was probably a combination of me being a complete newbie and them not having to constantly recycle articles and fill pages with supplement ads to make a monthly deadline. Anyway, even now there's some of that old nostalgia when the issue comes in the mail and every once in a while one of my personal icons (Monica Brant, Timea Majarova, Lena Johannsen) show up on the cover. So, I guess the original post was just a knee jerk reaction to my disappointment at what I see as another turn in the downward spiral of quality information(sigh), not in any way a slam on the cover model/actress.
On the plus side I now have ABC, where the quality info and support are far superior to any mag, even in it's heyday!!! |

I have yet another fitness magazine to add. FitnessRX. It's new. Anyways, I bought a copy a few weeks ago and today I saw a copy at the gym. The cover model doesn't even look muscular. He arms are like sticks and she looks like an anorexic with a pretty face.
When will they come up with REAL women in fitness to put on the covers?

Hey I found one that looks promising!
http://www.curlmagazine.com/ I haven't seen it but ordered a subscription after my friend (5'3", 48, female, 130, squats 270!)said she had bought an issue and really liked it. We are the women who challenge the limits of athletic performance, strength, and physique perfection. Finally a magazine for us. Most "hard-core" weight training magazines are designed for men. Women find much of the information in these magazines difficult to adapt for their weight training and health needs. As for the current women's fitness periodicals, many of them have more beauty and fashion tips than serious training advise. We address women who can do without "fluff" and want serious information about serious training. Our full-color magazine is packed with uncensored information for the serious trainer. The editorial content features training advice, nutrition, clinical research, athlete profiles, book and product reviews, contest preparation, contest coverage, satire, and much more. |

Curl looks like a pretty good option to me, too!! Do you know if it's available in bookstores or newsstands, Hilltowner? I'd really like to look through an entire issue before subscribing.
BTW, I have to agree with prior comments about FitnessRX. Some of the articles are extremely pro "no carb" (i.e. no energy) as well. Other disappointments have been Energy and Women's Fitness International. I recently joined NSCA and I like their journal a lot, but it's more research oriented and not geared towards women, or even recreational athletes for that matter. I'd really like something that is informative but has some entertainment value as well. A girl's gotta have some down time! |

Yeah, the covergirl on FitnessRX is some playboy bunny with scrawny arms and big you know whats! It's not that there's anything wrong w/ a big bust, but that is NOT muscle!!! Let's show some hard to earn muscle!!

Shape too.

Sadly, I keep seeing people in my gym reading this crap. I want to tell them to put it down before they're brain washed!
