Default finally went to see the doctor today

I seriously injured my shoulder at the beginning of Nov. I haven't been in the gym since. This was major pain, worse than labor or abdominal surgery!! I could even stand to let my arm hang at my side for about 5 days. After 6 weeks, I still can't stand to even pick up a gallon of milk.

Although staying out of the gym has reduced the mind numbing pain, obviously it isn't healing on its own. This, and the fact that I'm taking 6-8 Advil at a time for the pain, made me finally see the doc.

He thinks its a rotator cuff injury. He gave me some tylenol #3 to help control the pain so I don't have to take so much Advil and he's sending me for physical therapy. He said he doesn't think it's anything major and that he expects it to respond well to pt.

I'm so relieved! I simply MUST get back into the gym!!

Sorry to hear that! How did you injure your shoulder?

Phew! Nothing major, that's good! I hope your physical therapy goes well and you heal up quickly! I'll pray for ya!

It was really quite funny, actually (except for the fact that it hurt like a mother!) You know that board you do crunches on? I put the foot end up high on the rack to get a major decline. `I took ahold of the board on each side behind my butt so I wouldn't slide off while I lifted my feet and I got this incredible pain in the back of my left shoulder, like someone punched me with a knife! I almost cried right there!

Weird, huh. Never thought working my abs would cause a shoulder injury!

Whoa, that is a rather strange way to get a shoulder injury. In any case, hope you are feeling better real soon!

The rotator cuff is a very small but has quit an impact on almost every lift! I recommend going to the therapy! And strength training and stretching the area in the gym!

Good luck with your recovery!

This happened on Friday so I iced it off and on all weekend and took advil for the pain. It was all in the area of my rear delts. By Monday it felt better so I went ahead with my chest/bi workout.

I was bulking at the time so I was lifting pretty heavy. I did the chest/bi but by the time I was done, the shoulder was hurting again. This time the pain was in the front though, outer pecs and down the inside of my arm. That was the pain that was so outrageous. I couldn't stand to have my arm down at my side or even to use the muscles.

Now the pain comes and goes, sometimes rear delts, sometimes pecs, sometimes in a circle where my arm joins my shoulder.

I am definitely going for pt. Once they've done their assessment and I get working on the rehab, I'll talk to them about getting back in the gym.

If the pain has moved to the arm you may also have inflamed your bicep tendon...it is common to do this along with rotator cuff injuries (I know from experience). Make sure to take care of it, see a PT and rehab it SLOWLY...mine took a year to heal properly, and yes it sucks but it makes you realize how important these small muscles and tendons are to your physical makeup.

Be proud of yourself...you have your first bodybuilding injury!
