I have been reading the posts to this board and it seems we have alot of knowledgable people out there.
I plan to enter a body building show next spring I am training for that now. My question is should you body fat % be for competion? I am at 17% now and weight 120 Thanks for the advice

It ultimately depends on the person as I've got a friend who won shows at 11-12% body fat. She is also very muscular weighing around 125 lbs at 5'3". It seems generally though that women shoot for somewhere between 8-10% for competition. Sicily1962 would probably know more about it as she has some competition experience I believe and she is presently preparing for an October show.

About body fat and competitions. In France the fitness/figure girls only need to be at 12-14% but in the States it's lot lower.
It's also a question about you and your morphology. You need to get the thighs nicely defined and of course the six pack.....

Well, currently (I should say as of 10days ago) I was at 15% with 12wks to go. My trainer originally wanted me to come in between 7-8%, but after seeing me at 15, he is thinking 10% might be better since i'm showing some nice cuts and muscularity. He has since changed my nutrition and only wants me to drop 1% by the 31st of this month giving me 8wks to drop 4 or 5% before the show. It's definately an individual thing. I think Krypto is right. You can be 10% and be perfect or 10% and still not show the definition needed to make it into the finals. I would say, evaluate your physic...be honest. Find out where your week points are ~ prioritize!! That's key! If you want to do a show in 6mos to a year from now, that's plenty of time to add new muscle and bring up those lagging parts. Also, don't worry about gaining a little BF in the process (a little!! lol!) You have to eat to grow! Trying to maintain a low BF% while preparing for a show a year away is too much. Good luck! There is a ton of great info right on this site! Take advantage of it!!
