Love this thread. My flat mate wants to start working out and I was just looking for a comprehensive introduction for him. This is just perfect. Also great to refresh my own knowledge once in a while.

The best summary I've ever read!

I spent 2-3 years messing around with machines, iso exercises and a poor diet.

This year has been predominantly "back to basics" - following the above - and I'm already in better shape than I was before. Good luck all
