Default De Novo Nutrition

Hello everyone,

Some of you may know me from my journal in the training section, but most of you likely do not as I have not been a regular on ABC as of late. This has certainly not been because I have stopped lifting or anything of that nature. The main reason is that I have become incredibly busy with starting up my own line of dietary supplements and nutrition/training services.

Like many of you, I have been a consumer in the sports nutrition industry since I started lifting weights. Since I have started purchasing supplements I have always been left wanting more. In other words, the products on the market never seemed to be dosed appropriately, marketed realistically, or labeled simply. How many times have you read a label that has a simple ingredient such as an amino acid hidden behind a proprietary blend or IUPAC chemical name that 90% of the population does not understand? Also, how many times do you see people purchase flashy labeled supplements when whats inside the bottle is the same as what you can get for half the price? Many times the materials other than the actual product you want is what you end up paying the most for!

As a Certified Sports Nutritionist (CISSN), Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), college graduate in Nutrition, and soon to be Masters graduate in Sports Nutrition, I have seen the market and to be quite honest I have been continually disappointed. So many companies today are so marketing-driven and do not focus on what passionate individuals really want, products that are complete, honest, and based on actual scientific literature, not hype.

So... In my time away I began formulating supplements for myself. As a man of science, most of the time I can see through the cloud of deception most brands attempt to sell consumers, so I went in search of buying and producing actual formulas that work and are comprehensive. I am happy to say that this process grew from making supplements for myself, to now being able to offer them to other driven individuals that have the same goals in mind as I do; pushing the limits on human performance.

Companies today are focused on the micro level, filling products with unnecessary minerals, vitamins, or under-dosed compounds allowing them to create cheap formulas while making multiple label claims. De Novo Nutrition is focused on the macro level, utilizing compounds that are dosed appropriately, create a measurable physiological effect, and most of all will continually be tested to ensure they are doing what they are supposed to. If a product does not meet or exceed my performance or laboratory marker expectations I will not sell it and absorb my losses.

I will not be here to incessantly pitch you products, I am here for the same reasons as you; to continually improve myself and the bodybuilding/powerlifting/performance enthusiast community. I encourage you all to check out my website: www.denovonutrition.com . There are numerous free programs, links, and resources on the site and I am continually adding more. Please, if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask whether they are related to De Novo or not.

On a final note, I would like to thank Gabe and Jake for not only allowing me to bring De Novo to the ABC community but also for being mentors, friends, and enormous positive influences. If I never met you guys at ISSN 4 years ago, this would have never started!

Talk to you guys soon!
-Ben

I was looking at the t-booster.

The only thing that I don't like is the DAA. Do you know more about the safety regarding DAA use (neurotoxicity)

DAA is an amino acid.. there is no known neurotoxicity level

It can bind to the NMDA-receptors (in the brain), which made a lot of fuss on other boards. I was wondering what you guys think about it's safety since I can't find studies on the safety of daily DAA use.

DAA is partially converted to NMDA. NMDA is an excitotoxin in large doses but in small concentrations it simply acts as a neurotransmitter (similar to glutamate) at the NMDA receptor. It is interesting that this issue is brought up a large amount on message boards but in the literature I have not come across any neurotoxicity reports in regards to DAA use in humans or even in vivo research.
Furthermore, it has been used at the dosage I provide in my supplements in human trials and throughout the supplement industry for almost a year now. I cannot imagine that this procedure (supplementation with a known toxic agent) would be approved by the IRB of the university for use in a human trial.
Part of the MOA of DAA is, through its conversion to NMDA, it binds with NMDA receptors in the pituitary gland.. Largely making it responsible for its effects of LH and test levels.

I think it is a good question but to be quite honest I am not sure how much of a jump or scare tactic this is by overly skeptic consumers. I can tell you that I have thoroughly researched this amino and to my knowledge it does not pose any type of threat to healthy individuals @ the dose I provide it in. I would never knowingly provide something that is a known toxic agent to individuals who are trying to better themselves, including myself as I use my own supplements!
