AMPK is essentially the cells fuel guage and during energy depleting processes it is activated leading to a shutting down of energy consuming processes such as protein synthesis. STudies generally show an increase in AMPK activation even during resistance exercise. But these studies r usually done in the fasted state.
A recent study however found that AMPK was not increased in activation in a fed state http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...t=AbstractPlus Interesting stuff!

do you think endurance exercise done in the fed state would activate AMPK?

One thing I know from a study is that rats in a high glycogen state barely activated AMPK(if at all) while those in a low glycogen state activated it big time following swimming. So theoretically I think that very well may be the case
