hey gals,
Quick question for ya... I take ZMA, and it really helps me sleep. I know there are other effects, but the main reason I take it is to help me get the best nights sleep possible. My fiance notices how well I sleep, and has been having some sleep problems. Lately she's seemed a bit worn out and hasn't been her normal self because she hasn't been sleeping through the night.. I've wondered about getting her some ZMA and hoping it does the same for her that it's done for me, but although she's fit, she's not a bodybuilder by any means, and i'm a bit worried about how the other effects (increased growth hormone levels and test. levels) will effect her... Any advice?

I've taken it and it helped me sleep deeper. I didn't see any side effects. I've got my mom on it and it's helped her a lot.

I was talking to some ppl in the gym and this girl there said that calcium blocks zinc and magnesium absorbtion. For girls this effect is supposedly even bigger. Whey milk soy proteins etc include calcium, supposedly enough to make ZMA seem like waste. Similar to drinking soy protein and taking zma before you go to sleep. Later one guy started arguing it isn't so but then the discussion took to "L-Glutamine and Creatine use same carriers and block eacother's absorbtion (that is, one gets transported, the other doesn't). This turned out to be more interesting then ZMA / calcium discussion and everyone forgot about zma. I was merely silent listener, as I don't have a clue about what is wrong or right. Others know if this zma VS calcium thing is true? (yes i have no references, gymtalk is not a reference )

Calcium will interfere with magnesium absorption, but only at the time of ingesting it. That's why you should take ZMA on an empty stomach either an hour after eating or 30 minutes before eating. You can check out the ZMA article for more information.

Should be no problem. I would read this, too, Gender Differences: How Women Differ from Men
