Hi all,
Was trying to do dead lifts this morning, haven't done them in a long time, and had a decent weight on the bar, howver i was having trouble actually holding the bar. it wasn't the grip as i had gloves on, i felt like i was going to drop it, even though it was not too heavy for my legs. Has this happened to you before? Is there anyway around this, as i was unable to complete my 4th set of 12 reps, and don't wantto have to stop this exercise as i really like it. Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks sally |

how long have you been doing them? if you just started i wouldnt sweat it. your grip will get stronger with time.
straps could possible help but i wouldnt suggest them b/c if your grip strength is the problem they wont help increase your strength there, they will just band-aid the real problem

When I first started doing them, I was picking the bar up overhanded. Someone suggested doing one hand over and one under, it really helped control the bar and made it much easier in terms of grip. You may already do it that way, but I found that simple little tweak helped a great deal.

if you are doing SLDL's on leg day then your grip will not be pre-fatigued from other exercises, b/c there arent many leg exercises that will fatigue your grip.
if you are doing squats, leg presses or any other compound lift i would be doing these first. just keep at em and your grip will strengthen in time.
