I realized after I started lifting that I really despise cardio. I can't stand doing it, but I do know that I need to do it. Is swimming laps better than running/speed walking? Also, I drink my water with lemon juice in it, is this bad for me? I just can't seem to drink plain water and still drink the amount that is needed.

Cardio is awesome if you do it on an elliptical trainer do you have access to one fo those? if so just give it a try. or bring music with you on a run. and running laps is good for you because it takes all of the stress off of your joints which is always a good thing.

Swimming works your body all over (all muscles), I would prefer swimming! I personally dropped my cardio (2 weeks now) to see if I get better gains (muscles).
Also, I really dont't think that adding lemon juice does anything other than add Vitamin C and flavor

I find it very boring so I don't do it.
I *used* to do it; I did lots of aerobic classes before I started lifting (last March). I did the BFL program so always did the 20 minute intervals, which actually weren't too awful on the elliptical or stepmill. But in June I started BodyRX, which doesn't require cardio, just a 4 day split. I managed to lose 12 pounds and almost an equal percentage of BF without *any* cardio. I've since tweaked the program quite a bit but still do fine without cardio. I'm not saying no one should do any, but I feel it's highly overrated. And I am pretty happy just spending 4 mornings at the gym. |

I agree with you, I find cardio very boring now. And the sad thing is I used to be a distance swimmer. Cardio and endurance used huge part of my life. However, I still find if I want to do a little bit of cardio the easiest thing for me is swimming. I never realized until I quit how many muscles it really works, and how great of a workout it can really be.
