The "In Between"?

My questions is: What type of workout do you all do "In Between" hitting major muscle groups?
My Routine: I'm doing intense weight training every other day. For example I will work Legs-Monday, Back/Shoulders-Wed., Biceps/Triceps/Forearms-Friday.
Abs and cardio I perform every workout day. Should this be the only thing I do in between days I hit major muscle groups? I understand recovery and rest is important to this lifestyle, so I'm interested in finding out how you all put these concepts all together.
