I agree with Hardcory, being properly warmed up and loose lets me get heavier in poundage.
In regards to exercises, sorry if this isn't helpful, but squatting frequently I found was key to getting stronger and more confident (such as 3 to 4 times per week). I don't really do accessory exercises except dragging a tire.
