Well here is the update on the finger a week after the injury.
Things are looking good, the discolouring is almost gone, the finger nail has not fallen off nor is it coming off, it is just discoloured. The swelling is almost unnoticeable, but there is still some pain, mostly from the bruise and the nail itself.
