This is all my opinion, no study's.
Personally I would say 45-90 minutes are acceptable, but it depends on your training routine. A person who trains more requently should be in there less time and vice-versa. But some training routines such as HIT (you'd know [img]/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]) and DC don't require much time at all and there users make great gains so who knows - maybe a revolution in training time is comming up soon?
