I think this is a very interesting topic. And is one I have thought about and practiced with many times.
I this also extends to every aspect of life.
For me it's about focus and expectations.
If I focus on negative things, that's all I see/experience.
If I expect things to go badly, guess what, they do.
But on the other hand, I focus on and expect the postive/best then that's what I encounter.
I firmly believe my beliefs influence my reality. Sure, reality can influence my beliefs as well, but for me, it seems my mind has a greater influence on what I experience than anything.
Does this make sense to anyone?
