I usually get Balance Gold Bars from Costco, but they just stopped carrying them so now I'm looking online for something else.

I know they're not perfect, but they are convenient for the middle of the night to keep by your bed with some Xtend in a water bottle.

Im looking for a decent amount of protein (blended whey/casein is ideal)(~25g), 20-30g low GI carbs, and a little bit of fat (~6-12 or so)......Oh, also if I can buy in bulk online for an affordable price, that would be great. Taste/flavor variety is obviously a nice bonus.

Thanks.

im not a big fan of store bought protein bars, the quality of the protein isnt great and the ingredients tend to be on the lower end. ur best bet would be making something homemade if u have the time, check the recipe form, venom bars are fantastic!

Thanks Jinx, I'm fully aware that homemade is ideal, but for the sake of convenience, I'm looking for the best overall bar to purchase.

Make sure to read the ingredients lists on all protein bars. Most of them have a whole whack of carbs in them that generally come from white (refined) sugars. Also, a lot of the bars sold at grocery stores... (like Bio-Protein @ Costco) contain Soy protein which has been linked to increasing estrogen levels in males.

I like Met-RX. They have a couple versions I enjoy, Colassal, Big 100 and Protein Plus. I enjoy Cookies N Cream and Cookie Dough

there really isn't enough consistent information on how large of a dose is needed to elicit this response. Some studies even suggest smaller doses of phytoestrogens, may lower estrogen. I would still try to avoid soy though because the vast majority of it (at least in the states) is genetically modified.

over 90% of 'studies' dont mean a thing whether positive or negative the out come generally swings the way the people paying for the study want it to.

i dont eat soy simply because it is an estrogen antaginising protein it is the most likely to raise estrogen therefore it goes to the bottom of my protien list under hemp

I just ordered these, per recommendation of Layne Norton, http://www.2020-wellness.com/Products%20Page.htm. Thought I'd share with the ABC Community. They are all natural protein bars.

as far as most natural products, i've heard cliff bars tend to use good ingredients and they taste great

Pure Protein Bars by Worldwide Nutrition!
These are by far they best I have had yet, excellent flavor and a good variety to choose from. You can buy a 6 Pack of the 50g size from Wal-Mart for $6-7. The 70g size usually goes for around $2 each on online stores, haven't really found it much cheaper, have a look at Ebay. Low in sugar as Joneser3eb mentioned above.

they do taste good and the soy protein they source is organic. FYI, they are releasing a new protein product called shot roks with basically the same macronutrient profile but they use whey instead.

you really can't trust either side of the spectrum of results concerning soy since the dairy and soy industries have it out for one another

which is why i tried it for a month, and for me
- it digests worse than whey
- leaves me feeling hungry between workout shakes
- makes me bloated which inturn ruins my workouts hindering gains

On the other hand, I would say the same for whey. As usual, you need to find what works for you.

PureProtein bars are great low-sugar bars. Also the Met-Rx low-carb bars. Sometimes if I'm in a hurry after my workout I'll grab a Met-Rx Colossal bar that has ~50g carbs and ~30g protein. This would be my PWO meal (after I finish my PWO drink).

Clif bars are also good-quality carbs.

If I am in a hurry and need to grab something on-the-go, I'll go for peanuts and beef jerkey.

are you referring to soy protein powder or soy in general?

I never bothered with the powder, but tofu used to be a part of my diet. I took it out a few months ago after the ampk hype and to be honest, I haven't noticed a difference. I think I'm going back to eating tofu

I'm focused on weight loss, so the bars suggested seem to have too many calories for my calorie range.

I've been eating these for about a year:
http://www.healthsmartfoods.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=20

95cal, 3.5g fat, 17g carb, 9g protein. Available from Netrition.com.

I'm happy with their taste and make up, what do others think of their composition?
