Gabe and I have a 40 page manuscript on HMB under peer review right now. It will be similar to our protein paper.
In short, it works!

I am not sure if I missed it somewhere, but does age or heavy or light workouts have anythng to do with if you should do HMB or not? Another lamen question here? /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

1. Its effects appear to generalize across numerous age groups
2. As an anti-catabolic agent, its effects should be maximized in the presence of greater muscle damage. But this has not been documented.

Yep,
Dr. Panton who I am conducting a study with this semester on HMB
has done a study in the past which examined the effects of age on HMBs capacity to lower muscle damage. They found that it lowered muscle damage independent of age, or sex

i have come across some studies that seem to point to hmb's effectives comes more with those who have never trained before as opposed to those who consistently work out.
do you notice this in your research?

That is a big concern, which we discuss in our manuscript. If you look in the link I gave, this is discussed breifly.

There are major problems with the studies whcih demonstrate it is not effective in trained conditions.
ALso, there are numerous studies properly conducted which show it assists trained populations as much as untrained populations.
Gabe and I think one of the main issues is the training stimulus.
E.G HMB only works when there is enough muscle damage to control. But in a trained athlete many of the studies do not elicit a high enough stimulus to where this would assist the athlete.
