Well...

First of all, it's not necessary to discuss openly that you are under probation.

Second, I don't understand your question. From what I understand though, yeah, of course there's an english version of the Bible /forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

IF however, you're question was: "Do you know if there is an english version of the actual Bible without any bits cut out?" then the answer is also yes. Check out the King James Version of the Bible. Other versions, like the NIV, come from a different set of manuscripts which are corrupted. I can provide you with some links regarding this if you're interested.

And of course there's spirituality in christianity /forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif The goal is to find that spirituality within YOU /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey Will, could you lead me in the direction of where I might be able to read on the manuscripts that the NIV uses being corrupted and/or of the authenticity of the KJV? Thanks!

I prefer the New American Standard, its probably the most authentic relating to the original, and also easiest to understand.

I'm not a huge advocate of KJV for new Christians, for the reaason that the old English is pretty archaic today and can give the wrong impression when trying to translate it with our 21st century American English understanding.

I agree with OS. I love my KJV for devotional times. But for people just getting into the Bible, you can't beat the NASB. I Do also like the NKJV.

I do love NKJV. (New King James Version)

But my favorite version is Casiodoro de la Reina Valera, which is older than King James Version...but of course you have to know Spanish...oh well...

For Study Bible, I really like the Amplified Bible, it gives you several English words that gives you deeper understanding of the Greek or Hebrew key term.

From Amplified Bible:

Genesis 1
1IN THE beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth.(A)

2The earth was without form and an empty waste, and darkness was upon the face of the very great deep. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters.

3And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.

4And God saw that the light was good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it; and God separated the light from the darkness.(B)

5And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

By the way, for inductive Bible Study, using key words as patterns, and things like that...Revised Standard Version is excellent for that.

No other versions compare with RSV for that kind of study.

Try Answering These From Your NIV

By Rex L. Cobb

INSTRUCTIONS:

Using the New International Version Bible, answer the following questions to this NIV quiz.

Do not rely on your memory. As the Bible is the final authority, you must take the answer from the Bible verse (not from footnotes but from the text).

Fill in the missing words in Matthew 5:44. "Love your enemies,__________ them that curse you, ______________ to them that hate you, and pray for them that __________ and persecute you."

According to Matthew 17:21, what two things are required to cast out this type of demon?

According to Matthew 18:11, why did Jesus come to earth?

According to Matthew 27:2, what was Pilate's first name?

In Matthew 27:35, when the wicked soldiers parted His garments, they were fulfilling the words of the prophet. Copy what the prophet said in Matthew 27:35 from the NIV.

In Mark 3:15, Jesus gave the apostles power to cast out demons and to: ____________

According to Mark 7:16, what does a man need to be able to hear?

According to Luke 7:28, what was John? (teacher, prophet, carpenter, etc.). What is his title or last name?

In Luke 9:55, what did the disciples not know?

In Luke 9:56, what did the Son of man not come to do? According to this verse, what did He come to do?

In Luke 22:14, how many apostles were with Jesus?

According to Luke 23:38, in what three languages was the superscription written?

In Luke 24:42, what did they give Jesus to eat with His fish?

John 3:13 is a very important verse, proving the deity of Christ. According to this verse (as Jesus spoke), where is the Son of man?

What happened each year as told in John 5:4?

In John 7:50, what time of day did Nicodemus come to Jesus?

In Acts 8:37, what is the one requirement for baptism?

What did Saul ask Jesus in Acts 9:6?

Write the name of the man mentioned in Acts 15:34.

Study Acts 24:6-8. What would the Jew have done with Paul? What was the chief captain's name? What did the chief captain command?

Copy Romans 16:24 word for word from the NIV.

First Timothy 3:16 is perhaps the greatest verse in the New Testament concerning the deity of Christ. In this verse, who was manifested in the flesh?

In the second part of First Peter 4:14, how do [they] speak of Christ? And, what do we Christians do?

Who are the three Persons of the Trinity in First John 5:7?

Revelation 1:11 is another very important verse that proves the deity of Christ. In the first part of this verse Jesus said, "I am the A______________ and O___________, the _________ and the _______:"

Conclusion: Little space is provided for your answers, but it's much more than needed. If you followed the instructions above, you not only failed the test, you receive a big goose egg.

(Ed. These are all missing in the NIV.) So now what do you think of your "accurate, easy to understand, up to date Bible"?

If you would like to improve your score, and in fact score 100%, you can take this test using the Authorized (King James) Bible.

But I still have to say that there is no "perfect" Bible, so the debates will always go on and on. Therefore one should pick a Bible that they feel comfortable with. I chose the KJV (or even NKJV) because I feel it is the most accurate one. It was the first english Bible I started reading, and english is not even my mother language /forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif But I know that preferences vary very much, so there's really no absolute answer as to which Bible is the best.

Hey another neat thing about that is. I was looking at those verses and noticed. If it was supposed to be vers 17 and it was left out of the text the Niv simply notes the text as verse 14, 15, 16 and skips 17 all together and then after 16 you read verse 18. I know thats so that it will match with other bibles but i have never noticed that part. LOL It really is amazing how many lines are not in the text. Im terribly embaressed that ive never noticed the number thing. /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif Ive allways noticed missing text because ive told people to turn to so and so and then their like there is no verse so and so and im like hugh? and then realize its gone but i never noticed that the numbers arent allways sequencial. LOL

Any way thought that was neat.
