What do you guys think is the greatest sermon in the bible?

This sermon is actually not discussed in the bible, but I bet it was the greatest one ever. /forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Luke 24:13-35
13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. 16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. 17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? 18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? 19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: 20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. 21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. 22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; 23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. 24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not. 25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 7 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. 228 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. 29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. 30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? 33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, 34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. 35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

It says he discussed ALL the prophecies about himself. That would have been awesome to hear!

I agree with you venom, that would indeed be a great sermon, to have Christ go thru all the prophecies. even though it isn't a true sermon, I would say the 7 letters to the churches in Revelation. Not only told of their problems they needed to address, but shows the problems of so many churches today

I believe the Sermon on the Mount. Especically Matthew's account. It contains more wisdom than any other selection of scripture in my opinion.

No doubt Venom I've often wanted to hear that.

Also to hear Noah preach would have been pretty sweet.

"It says he discussed ALL the prophecies about himself. That would have been awesome to hear!"

Amen to that Venom! Amazingly, just this past monday evening an evangelist brought this very thing up in his revival message. He emphasized the ALL THINGS PERTAINING TO HIMSELF and said that was awesome considering the journey was only about 7 1/2 miles!

Great thought.

How about Stephens to the Council? While he was the first Christian martyr as a result of it, there was a young man there named Saul of Tarsus that had "consented unto his death".

Much of our New Testament is, at least indirectly, a result of that sermon!

Yeah, steven's is great and would be amazing to hear.

But, when it comes to hearing someone preach how could you be the ONE, Himself?? For sure just listening to Jesus would be it for me.

^^Agreed
As far as listening to Jesus is concerned, I'd love to just hear him speak one of his parables to me.

what I would have loved to hear, was Jesus in the temple when he was a boy (Luke 2:39-52). imagine Jesus at age 12 sitting the temple and discussing his points so fluently, already with such authority that would amaze people.

These are all great fellas!

Solomon dedicating the temple in 2 kings is another awesome one, but that's more like a prayer.

I agree...it would be amazing to hear Jesus explain different Scriptures that pertain to Himself.

I was discussing with a guy who is the head of the Missions Department to the Middle East for a Reformed denomination that Jesus appeared to Joshua...and he disagreed with me vehemently...

Joshua 5: 13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? 14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? 15 And the captain of the LORD' host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

Oh well !!!

He thought he was just and angel and I told him you CANNOT worship an angel and the Bible is full of examples that if they were angels, they would stop them from worshipping them.

Why were we discussing even this ? Well, his view of Jesus was just a peaceful and meek saviour, who is all for peace and not war.

I was trying to give Him the other side, the returning King of Kings and Lord of Lords who make war on the nations who are against Him.

Anyhow...I betcha that Jesus used that Scripture to explain these men on the Road to Emmaus !!!

And by the way, my roommate did walk on that Road to Emmaus three years ago...with a Philippino church. It was powerful.

These are really inspirational posts, guys. Thanks for sharring.

I agree that was Jesus, PSaturn. I think he appears a lot in the Old Testement as the Angel of the Lord.

I agree totally fellas.

If Jesus isn't the captain of the host, I want to know who that is on the horse in Revelation. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif
