A friend gave me some printed workouts from this site about 2 years ago and I've been hooked ever since. I am 29, 5'10", 170 lbs. 11.7% bf and have an ecto/endo type of frame. I live in NY and was raised catholic. I used to weigh about 153 lbs. before I found this site and was not eating optimally to say the least (too many simple carbs and fried food, note: I am Hispanic, parents from Dominican Republic, we have GREAT tasting food, albeit not cooked in the healthiest ways, i.e. white rice w/ black beans and fried chicken breast was a typical meal and maybe some fried plantains.) I was on my way to becoming a skinny fat guy.

After finding this site I felt a hunger for more information and began researching supplements, workouts, other sites, etc. Of all the information I have read and of all the sites visited, books read, articles printed, this has been the one resource I return to again and again for proven, practical, results getting information. To oversimplify, I read what studies referenced on this site I could find along with any other info. related to the subject and came across a few "guru's" who had developed a certain "get muscle" program. In the end I felt like all these other "gurus" were just putting their own twists on the basics I learned here. Basics which guys like The Prez and Joe have written and expanded on with numerous studies for backup (vs. 3-4 studies, if that backing up these other "guru's") I'm glad there are folks like the moderators of this site giving their time to create a place with so much great info. I have achieved changes in both my body and spirit that probably would not have happened if I hadn’t found this site. I am healthier than I have ever been and wish I would have found this site 5 years ago! In any case, I look forward to continuing to learn and maybe even share my new found knowledge with all the great people participating in this little corner of bodybuilding heaven. If you'll excuse me now, I have a question to post and a meal to eat. /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif God bless.

Shoden,

its interesting. Venom, Joe, and I are getting ready to perform some of the most extensive research possible for one of the biggest issues in exercise science for the site. We were discussing it literally while I was reading this post.
It entails insane amounts of work and dedication, as well as several meetings between the three of us.

This post reaffirms to me why we are willing to work to such a great extent.

Thank you for taking the time to post such inspirational words!

Shodan. Want healthy hispanic food? Talk to me! I am puertorican, born and raised in Puerto Rico, so we are practically next door neighbors!

Great job on your accomplishments! Keep up the good work!

Wow amazon, thats so cool! I have many friends from P.R. Coincidentally, yesterday was the PR parade here in NY. I will definitely take you up on that offer. Some things I've twisted around on the "spanish" classics are using brown rice instead of white, grilling meats instead of frying, no fried foods :-( lol and a few other things (have not had *chicharon de pollo in at least 2 years). I'll be sure to take some time to post some recipes soon. I'm looking forward to being a bit more active in the forums, I'd like to give something back. Take care.

*This is basically fried chicken spanish style

Hey, if I don't know what chicharron is...I deserve to be hanged! LOL

How about tostones *fried green bananas* and sorrullos *fried corn flour biscuits* lol Oh, tons of fried stuff in the caribbean.

All I can tell you is that I make a special rub and my marinades too. Switch the unhealthy corn oil for healthier options...use of vinegar and lemon juice..I use also oregano, cumin, paprika, pepper, mashed garlic cloves, etc. I buy the meat, defrost and then make the marinade. On time to cook, then I add any salt free seasoning and it works! I use non-stick cooking oil for "frying" anything. My beans rock though..lol.

Thanks for the tips LA, I switched to canola years ago for anything I needed oil for. I'm going to try some marinades, I currently use alot of garlic and adobo, onions/peppers, etc. I so miss tostones, :-(

Hey brothaman, thanks for the kind words. I was looking at your recent pics, you keep gaining alot of mass compared to the first ones, man you are one hard core dude, but then again if you're hanging with Joe, u have to be :-) The progress is inspiring, keep it up! I still havent mustered up the guts to try those upside down leg presses on a smith machine (not sure if thats what they were called, saw them in your journal a few weeks ago). Peace all.
