First of all let me say that I'm VERY glad that I accidentally ran across this site.

I have decided that it's been TOO LONG that I've been overweight. In the past, I have gone through short phases where I made a concerted effort to work out, but either I work out and don't focus at all on the diet, or I go hardcore diet and do zero working out. I have no idea what the reasoning is, but that's what's happened in the past.

About a year and a half ago I went on an Atkins-esque diet and dropped 40 pounds. I didn't work out at all (*&^%*) and have since gained it all back. I basically just modified what I ate to make it lower carb, but not to the degree that Atkins pushes from the beginning.

By most standards (not by many of you in here), I'm a fairly big guy. I'm 32, 6'1", and currently weigh 266. Somehow I get guessed low 200's, which makes me laugh, but whatever.

I have a hard time focusing on trying to attain a certain number on the scale because I have a large frame so I have to accept the fact that I will always be big. I just want to severely slim down and tone up. I don't want to bulk up too big, at least not until I've trimmed down quite a bit.

I've seen mention of guys doing cuts, but aside from the mention of it, I can't find any information on if this is a specific procedure being followed or what.

I had a membership at 24hr Fitness that I froze because I haven't literally stepped inside the gym in about 2 years. I purchased a weight rack (didn't want the smith type), preacher bench, and flat/incline/decline bench for home and would ultimately like to do my workouts at home if that's possible. (is it?)

I've been reading through a lot of the information on this site and have to admit that it's overwhelming to see all that's out there and not know quite where to begin.

A friend of mine (for the past week) has had me doing some routines at home, but I want to get as much information in my head as possible so I can actually achieve my goal of getting into the type of shape I haven't ever been in.

ANY information/advice you guys have would be GREATLY appreciated. So where oh where to begin......

One thing that I have always struggled with was self-motivation. As much as I want to be in shape, my whole viewpoint on working out is anything other than pleasant. I know with time it will be something I look forward to, but it's great to have found this site so I can actually (wiht y'alls help) keep myself in check......

Is it just a coincidence that you used fat alberts catch phrase?

Oh......one thing I forgot to ask about was Supplements. If it's possible to attain my primary goal of slimming down/toning up with minimal to no shakes/bars/pills, I would prefer to go that route.

I do have a ton of MetRx shake packets that I could go through, but I have to check the date because I'm sure those powder packets are at least 2 years old.

Read this workout plan:

http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/13weekfatburningworkout.php

And this nutrition plan:

http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/13weekstohardcorefatburningdiet.php

Implement them both (or modified versions of both) and you will see great results. If you have any questions about the principles involved in the workout or nutrition plan post and ask questions in the training or nutrition forum respectively.

This is also a must read! it involves post workout nutrition:

Congratulations on your decision!

A few words:

Gather your resolve, not to wage war with your weight, but to change your life for the better. If you treat this like your most important goal - you cannot lose! Picture how you want to be, keep it fresh in your mind, and let nothing stand in your way!

Don't worry about turning into the Hulk, that takes years of hard work. You won't suddenly wake up one morning looking like Lou!

Do exercise or you will end up thin and weak, and you will find that you are tired and when you eat you gain weight. You have already been through this, right?

Don't cut calories too far! You need food for energy to lose weight!

Don't dive into a killer workout! Build up gradually to ease the transition.

Lastly, love your body, both the pain of a good workout - and the power and serenity of healh. They are both important parts of the human condition.

[/ QUOTE ]These two pieces are HUGE parts of my failures in the past I believe. I think I had a slight hint at wanting to 'change my life' but ultimately the biggest priority was getting smaller. While both are similar, the difference was more short term vs. long.

Thank you!!!!
