Last week my foot started hurting. I've played soccer for about 15 years of my life and I know, very intimately, what a rolled ankle feels like and looks like. It fells and looks exactly like that: bruised (but hardly no swelling, which is wierd) on the lower outside part beneath the joint. It hurts to walk, more and more as the day goes on.

The thing is, I never rolled it. It just started hurting, which was last Thursday. I had gone swimming that day, the day before I had been deadlifting, and the day before that (Tuesday) I went running, just for reference on what I had done. Friday I did a lot of squats and my foot was destroyed for the weekend, it really hurt to walk.

Sorry for the long post, but I'm wondering what's going on. I didn't roll it, but it feels and acts like I did. Any ideas? I'm going to rest until it gets better, but I'm wondering if I might have done anything to cause this? Thanks

does the ankle hurt or where the bruising is? I usually got bruising there as a result of obliterating my ankle ligaments or also when the swelling from the joint went down.

Tho if you honestly can't remember anything you did to hurt your ankle, I would get it checked by a doctor, for sure. Bruising with a sprained ankle is usually pretty severe unless it's the result of compression on the swollen areas.

It can indicate ligament tearing. See a doctor, please.

Yeah, it does hurt where the bruising is. The pain has gotten much better since the weekend, but it's lingering a bit.
