Ok Ok before I get the "visit a doctor" and a few links to other related threads I have done that already /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now over the past few weeks whenever I work my triceps I am getting a pain/tightness at the base of my tricep/elbow.

A feeling I get during a set would be that the weight is being lifted at the elbow more then by the tricep itself, and I would say this started to happen about 8 weeks ago (after taking a 2 week break). Anybody who has experienced this or has any advice then feel free to put in. Cheers.

Also do you guys think this could have a been a side affect or accutane?

Could the triceps extensions exercise could be causing that, got to be very careful with it as it puts lots of pressure on your elbows.

Your symptoms point to elbow tendinitis. It is common after taking a break from training to develop tendinitis upon your return. It is best to moderately increase the weights and intensity of your workouts after a break from training. You probably already know the basic methods of treatment for elbow tendinitis (NSAID, rehab), but if you insist on continuing to workout your triceps, stay away from tricep extensions like Jedi said. On the other hand, kickback exercises shouldn't give you problems. Be aware of push exercises, they will most likely irritate your elbow. Make sure you warm up, and stretch your triceps with heat often.

Joint pain is a side effect of accutane but it doesn't seem to apply in your case. Elbow tendinitis after returning to training after a two week break is a much more logical diagnosis.

this happened to me before....but it felt almost like a funny bone/shifted nerve in my elbow ONLY when I was bring down the weight...for example on skull crushers.

All i did was just switch to exercises that didnt require me to bend my elbow in the same manner....

since im not a doctor, I cant really offer you any advice. However, after probably 3 weeks...i tried skull crushers again, and it appeared that the pain went away.....and has been gone since.

So....my guess is....if the suggestion from trez doesnt work, i'd just stick to exercises like close bench for a couple of weeks....then test out your elbow with the tri extensions and see if its gone.....

I have a similar problem right now. I get pain in the "tricep joint" right at the elbow in my right arm when I do one arm tricep extensions, but the pain is barely noticeable when I do other exercises. Could this be some form of tendenitis or is it something else?

It is most likely a mild tendinitis of your elbow.

Been there, done that - but my elbows are hurting in front this year from heavy preacher curls. When I had the tricep problem, one of the cures was stretching, in which I developed an easy and handy way to stretch the triceps. Put your fist behind your head with the thumb toward the rear, not the floor, and just look up at your elbow. I get an amazing full stretch with this simple deal and can do it all day.
