The other day I did a back/bi workout where 2 exercises had your chest on some sort of pad, and then for the heck of it I did one set of bench just to try something.

Right after that workout, my sternum started to hurt a lot near the top and now kind of has a bump to it (like the kind that would be on your head if you hit it), and also, I can now "pop" my sternum when I stretch (like the kind of popping your knuckles or back would do).

Should I stop doing chest workouts for a period of time or is this just something not to worry about?

It may be ribs moving around a little. As Nozz, she has had a rib head pop out before and might be able to help you describe the feeling.

The rib head that was out was much higher than my sternum, so my pain wasn't exactly what you are describing. But, it is very common for rib heads to pop out when doing bench-type exercises. I'd suggest you go to a chiropractor and have him/her take a look. It's a very quick and easy adjustment that doesn't hurt to get it back into place.
