Hey everyone,
Been a longtime reader, but this is my first post, so let me start by extending my thanks to the people who make this site happen, especially those footing the bill for hosting, etc.., as there is a lot of extremely useful information here and it couldn't happen without a community, and that extends to everyone who has ever posted anything on this site.

so here goes.

I've been running since high school. Short and long distance. I'm 26 and ending a bulk cycle. I've managed to put on 15-17 pounds in 7 weeks (short bulk cycle) so far and have 1.5 weeks left until I complete my bulk cycle and start slimming down for the beach.

I started bulk at roughly 172 lbs so on a good day I could be almost 190. I've put on a lot of this weight up top......shoulders, chest, arms....

Before my bulk cycle, I was running 2-3 10k per week, and at least 1 mile before every lift. I cut down significantly on my running during my bulk cycle because of the amount of calories that I burn, and the fact that it is very difficult for me to gain any weight with this amount of cardio.

Now slowly working in the cut routine, and now I can't get past 3 miles without getting a tight lower back. So much so, I have to stop running altogether and go at it another day.

The pain is pressure in my lower back just above my arse. Muscles feel extremely tight down there, and the pain is about unbearable.

Are there any exercises that I could incorporate into my existing 1.5 weeks of bulk and continue to do when I start my cut that could help me with this problem.

Thanks in advance.

This is just food for thought!

High Protien Intake can cause lower back pain via Kidneys.

I would try lowering protien and increasing complex carbs.

I would go extreme for 2 weeks to find out - Go 70% carbs 20% protien 10% fat. If the pain goeas away increase protien gradualy.

Another approach could be to up water intake and C+E.

Other than that weak TVA, inproper actvation, lack of endurance in the back muscles, poor ROM (unlikely to affect running), check your gait, tight hammy, glutes, hip flexors etc... , ...................

Hey thanks so much guys.

'The biomechanics of running up hills and at unusual angles leads to postural changes which demands greater stress on your back muscles.'

I'll give the exercises a go first before I start messing with my nutrition. Pain isn't so much Kidneys but heated pressure on the near outside of my lower back. Also, after reading article from Tyler:

I realized that my running shoes are about 1 year old now, so I've pretty much pounded out all of the support that they could possibly provide. I'll be at the shoe store on Monday to sort some new nubalance or nike running shoes.

Most of my weightlifting friends at the gym kind of look at me puzzled when I say 'long distance running', so thanks so much.

Maybe I'll post my 'before' cut cycle pictures up here for pointers.

Thanks again.
