View Full Version : wrists cracking and popping during upright row reps?
did some upright rows today while doing shoulders, and my wrists were cracking on each rep coming up, is that something i should be concerned about, or will it go away. i used a rack so i had good form.

Its not something you should be really concerned about. it happens to alot of people (or at least is uncomfortable instead of cracks). As you get used to the exercise, it gets less and less worse.
Just the position your hands/wrists are forced into.
I've also had this problem. When I started I was cracking and popping in various parts all over my body. I mostly noticed it when I did wrist curls, but I don't really notice anything now so I don't think it is a big deal either.

Yes, most people go through this when they first start--myself included. I would hypothesis that the musculature surrounding your distal forearms just need to be strengthened. Definitely make sure you do some direct forearm work. Most importantly, keep practicing upright rows; but you may consider going moderate to light repetitions, and make sure your form is perfect. Also, make sure you warm up.
I find it easy to get injured with upright rows as it puts too much pressure on my wrists and puts shoulders in uncomfortable position, I personally don't like doing it and prefer DB Upright rows over it.

Yup same here. I also use some straps on upright rows to give my wrist some more support.

Maybe try doing upright rows with either an EZ curl bar, or with dumbells, allowing you to rotate your wrists more.
i usually do upright rows as my 2nd or 3rd excerise, and i usually grip the bar with just my thumb/index/middle finger, which takes some stress off the wrists.

I would be a little cautious about the upright rows...it's the exercise that caused me to injure a tendon in my right hand.

Don't put ur wrists so close together, there is no need to have them right next to each other, it puts tremendous stress on ur wrists and u get the same workout in another position. Separate them by at least your thumbs length. I'm pretty sure I read this in a muscle and fitness can't remember which issue.
