Hi all,

I just came to know from the doctor that I have inguinal hernia and will be operated 2 weeks from now. /forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif

This comes to me when I have just had the best results from my workout ever in the past 8 months. I have also been working out now for about 5 years( mostly loosing weight except for the last 8 months when I have actually been building muscle too ) and pretty regularly.Have been working out very very regularly in the last 8 months. I have been alternating between cardio and weights lately. Also just started taking Creatine a month ago (stopped now though for the surgery). I take Whey Protein shake in the morning alternate days ( 3 scoops ).

I wonder if anyone here has had a hernia surgery and what is your workout schedule now? Will I ever be able to workout like normal ??? /forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif((

Moreso, during the coming 15 days can I do cardio atleast? I feel very depressed and incomplete if I do not workout. I do need to still loose some weight off my abs. And in these last 10 days I have started gaining weight actually. How should I deal with this situation? Any and all suggestions are welcome. Today, after being totally depressed for 10 days of coming to know that I need surgery I went to jog for an hour. I don't have any pain right now. I am thinking of doing just 1 hour of cardio ( running ) everyday undtil the surgery. Eager to hear advice/experiences.

Note : The doctor did say I'd be able to get back to normal workout after the surgery and healing up.

Write in guys. Thanks.

Those are questions for the doctor. Heal first, then worry about working out. Wouldn't want to try working out and rip out half of the stitches...

What triggered that hernia ?

We have a pharmaceutical rep in our office who came back after a 2 months hiatus. He had inguinal hernias and also other hernias. He got it from doing squats. He was doing 225 pounds squats.

He will not be doing squats for a looong time !

Like the others said, follow your doctors' advise on how hard of exercise you can do. Your doctor would know best your situation for everyone is different.

I don't know what triggered the Hernia. I wasn't doing Chest presses any bigger than 100 pounds and bicep curls any bigger than 40 pounds (each side). ?I reached this only when I started taking Creatine for a few days. And my instinct tell me Creatine really pumped me up to do more weight and that might well have triggered it. But then its just again my feeling. When you're taking creatine you're streching yourself beyond the natural limits - Playing with nature - and if you're naturally not totally gifted then nature might let you know where you are not gifted enough !

Hello people,

I am done with my hernia operation now. Was actually done last Friday. As much as I was worried about the first ever surgery in my life, it was pretty Ok to get done. Now I am eager to heal up totally and start working out soon. Although my pain isn't totally gone but I do feel I'll be fine to workout soon.

It has been a little more than 3 weeks since my inguinal hernia repair surgery and it was done laproscopically with a keyhole surgery method. I am trying to document here what I have experienced in the last3 weeks. Honestly, in the last two weeks, I have been doing pretty much everything I used to do sans hernia ( An IT professional's standard life ).Driving .. Grocery .. dinners with friends.. Movies .. etc.. All the the normal things xcept .. Oooooooh aaaaaaaah ouch ( it hurts ) my workout /forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif

AND my girlfriend's coming over soon .. and am not in perfect shape .. ( PANIC PANIC PANIC ... !!!! ) Never mind .. I just hope she understands .. and then ... I have nowstarted to try to put off the weight that I have gained in the past... It is noticeable that during the recovery period I did not keep myself from eating a healthy diet .. slightly richer in fats than I normally ate .. Now it is just an instinctive feeling in me that surgery recovery must be supported by a fatty diet it just gives you better healing .. and more strength and resistance to surgery pain and medicines. In my childhood my dad used to force me to Desi ghee rich food when I had to take antibiotics for my cough and cold condition...
So I don't know that is just my thought.. And yeah also noticeable is that although I have put on weight, I guess I still have not lost the basic structure I developed over the last 9 months of regular regular workout .. But Oh well.. I already have started doing some swimming .. although taking it easy because of my incisions and some walking and cycling.. I still haven't started stressing myself or even sweating /forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif No Sweat workouts suck !

Relax. Recovery takes time and is worth it. Get your diet back in check. It is a start. Check with your doctor in terms of your recovery..maybe he/she can give you pointers as to when to start and what kind of activity.

Hang in there!
