Yesterday I had dinner at a friends house and his wife was serving steak and with baked potatoes and veggies. I was looking forward to it since I have tasted her cooking before and she is quite good.

However, this time was unlike the last. The steak was as tough as rubber. I didn't want to offend her so I just smiled and told her it was good, meanwhile I had to seriously chew hard to get it down!

This morning I wake up and my entire jaw and the area around my glands is totally soar! That must have been one hardcore workout but I don't want any hypertrophy in my jaw muscles so this will be the last time I will be having steak at his house. /forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

LOL...actually after the steak I had a piece of homemade apple pie with ice cream so I didn't have a very good postworkout meal. /forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Been there done that. I hate that feeling when my jaw is sore and I can barely chew food anymore.

That is so funny ! Never thought about Jaw Doms...HA HA HA

Tell your friend to get Choice Grade Steaks...that is much tender. She probably got a Select Grade which is tougher or maybe it was overcooked.

When you overcook a steak, they lose tenderness.

Also when you "age" a steak, they are also much more tender, which the enzymes that is within working on the meat so it self tenderizes and also gives it that aged flavor. Aged steaks are available at premium steakhouses and they range from $28 to $42 in my area and some may go higher depending where you are. Most premium steakhouses age it for around 15 days. If you think they kinda taste rancid...you may be right.
