Ok so i got the demon factory tape player out of the tbird and my cd player in (once again thanks MO for the sites \\m// )

but heres the dealio, when i first turned the power on to try the cd player i had 2 of the wrong wires crossed.. so i heard a nice electric sound... turned the kar off fast and disconnected the cd player, but now i got no illumination on the dashboard and some other things like the stick and the clock, and the cd players hooked up right as far as i know and still not working, im pretty sure that means a fuse is blown out right? how can you tell the difference between a good and bad fuse ive never played with them before.

i checked the owners manual for the book and it shows that the fuse for the stereo is also the fuse for the warning chimes, i tried turning the lights on and opening the door and the warning chimes still went off, but the cd player still wont power up, im pretty sure its hooked up right i dont know whats going on with that but ill worry about it after i get everything else fixed

im an egghead that refuses to take my car to someone thats gonna chrage the hell out of me for somthing that should be easy so i must learn everything for myself /forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Fuses are just like lightbulbs, when they burn out the filament will be partially gone.

More than likely, you burned a fuse. It will be one labled "Illum" or Illumination. It will probably be a 4 amp fuse. Off the top of my head, I cannot remember the wire color for the dash lights for Ford. You may have it grounded out. This wire you do not need. Simply cap or tape it off with no connection to anything.

Just remembered, The wire color for dash lights is Light blue/ red, the wire color for park lights is brown.

Get tweezers (or fuse pullers), pull the fuse box cover, and start yankin' to see if the fuse has busted, as mentioned above.

If you have a manual for the car, check to see the instrumentation fuses and then pull those first.

Oh, and hook it up properly!

make sure to check the back of the CD player itself, most new stereos have a fuse built into them as well, usually behind the harness, there's a chance you blew that out. Good luck with it man, once you get it figured out stereo's are a breeze(except paying for them)

ok so today i went through all the fuses, there were 2 dead in the box, and 1 toast one in the high voltage box, replaced all of them and the cd player came back on, but the illumination for the speedometer stick ect still isnt working, im sure theres no shorts because wouldnt the new fuses have fried when i tried turning the panel lights on?? is there some kind of light that burnt out back there or what? any ideas?

You may have burned bulbs, check it out....re-trace your steps see if anything is crossed, check for nics in wires....and hope to god you don't need an auto-electrician....

Double check the illumination fuses. Sometimes the crack isn't very noticable.
