View Full Version : Tombstone Pizza on a dirty bulk?

I'm a really hard-gainer and currently dirty bulking. I'm a college student so convenient type foods makeup a pretty large portion of my diet but I try to eat as healthy as possible in the dinner halls and such. Anyway, I pulled out a Tombstone Pizza today for a snack and just by chance took a look at the nutritional facts...I was pretty shocked. The serving size was only 1/4 of a large pepperoni pizza. Here's some of the facts...

380 calories
19g of fat
36 carbs
16g of protein

I usually eat about 1/2 a pizza at one serving meaning that this gives....760 calories, 38g of fat, 72 carbs, and 32g of protein

I always thought that pizza was a fairly healthy food....I guess not! Given that I'm on a dirty bulk, do you think that is this ok to eat?

tear it up, although I do recommend clean bulking - it makes cutting a whole lot easier. Less fat gain, and not as many uncontrollable urges

I've pretty much given up on trying to bulk clean...my metabolism is freakishly fast. I can pretty much eat whatever I want and not gain any weight. However, I've really been concentrating on upping my intake lately so hopefully I will start to see some good gains. BTW- I'm also supplimenting with protein, creatine, and a multi.

yeah I really don't wanna hear about fast metabolisms, anyone can work around it that has a will to get bigger. I eat a clean 6500 calories on my bulk.. I'm not going to lie, it's not easy but it's doable. It's the little things that count, things like instead of having 1 cup of oats - make it 2.

how about you give us a sample of your diet today and let's see why you might not be gaining

Honestly, the hardest thing for me is living in the dorms without an oven or stove or anywhere to cook a decent meal. The cafeteria food is pretty bad but I try to eat as much as possible. Even when they do have something good like chicken breasts, they usually limit you to only 1! I try to make oatmeal or something for breakfast usually and add a protein shake. I usually eat whatever they have at the dining halls for lunch usually pasta, bread, chicken or hamburger, milk, and fruit.(I usually try everything that they have) Then I usually hit the gym and have my PWO shake. After that I usually have another smaller snack meal and then dinner again at the dining hall...similar food as lunch or sometimes I go out to eat. At night I try to get at least one more meal in if not two...usually pb&j with milk or some type of coldcut sandwich and fruit or something. Before bed I have another protein shake. I think I usually end up with around 3200 calories total and about 150-180g of protein.

Again, my biggest obsticle is finding time to eat often enough and healthy enough with a full schedule of classes and without a kitchen. My fridge is tiny and doesn't even have a freezer so its hard to buy a lot of frozen foods. I know that my diet is the biggest thing holding me back right now so I've really been working on eating more lately. I think I've been doing a bit better and I've seen some slight gains thus far. But yeah...suggestions/critque are always welcome but please keep in mind my situation with living in the dorms.

Wait a minute - You thought pizza was a healthy food?

http://www.soniccherry.com/funny/wtfcat.jpg

By what you posted above, that diet is awful, unplanned, and full of fat store-inducing worthlessness - Plain and simple. I'll let the others elaborate further.

and BTW- I know my diet sucks but I just find it really hard to workout a good diet while at school and under my current circumstances. If anybody is in the same situation I would really appreciate some tips. Just telling me that my diet is the worst thing ever and posting WTF pics doesn't really help much...

buy cans of tuna or the bag kind if you dont have a can opener. buy cottage cheese, oats, a georgeforeman grill, and buy your chicken on days that you plan on eating it. also at our DC i always would just pile on the plate chicken breasts whole wheat bread, salad. its really not that hard to eat decently at college.

I would only have pizza of any kind every now and again as a cheat meal on any kind of bulk. I smacked down an entire pizza a few weeks ago as a cheat meal and loved every bite of it.

I'm going to disagree with most everyone here. If you're going to bulk dirty, keep it DIRTY! Eat anything and everything, as long as you're getting you protein and carbs goals in, blow your cal intake out of the water! If you're a "hard gainer" /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif then you'll be able to cut down easy when you get off your bulk.

yes, but why dirty bulk? Its just so,...dirty...

Why be dirty when you could be clean.

Dorm/Cafeteria food won't do you much good... you're going to have to supplement from the outside!

Tuna Sandwiches on whole wheat bread, rice can be done in the microwave, yams/sweet potato as well, don't forget the good ole whey and oats shake (a blender could end up saving your life here, or at least your muscles, the possibilities are endless!)

If you are super serious a George Foreman Grill and a mini fridge would solve a lot of problems!

Use the cafeteria for whatever protein you can, but try to get your own complex carbs. The caf should be a good source for veggies and occaisional fruit, but leave the junk alone!

I come in to work every night with my "bag of food"... people used to laugh, now they just accept it, and some are asking questions after seeing my gains!

Eat and grow man!

If I can get away with eating junk and not hinder my gains, I'm gonna do so. I'll worry about being clean on my cut when it matters most /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

A situation like that can be tough. However, it is up to you to do what you have to do. You may have to even scrap up some extra cash for a mini-fridge and grill. It all boils down to how much you want it. I know we all try to rationalize our way out of stepping up to the plate, but you have to take an honest look at your situation and realize that while excuse and rationalizations may make you feel better, they are not helping you build muscle. You may have to spend extra money on a cooler, a fridge, a grill. You may have to spend your spare time cooking and cleaning. You may have to endure weird looks from others as you eat during class or scarf down a quick meal in between. I can tell you right now that nutrition is a monumental factor in what you gain. This animal, can you handle it? j/k /forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Next thing you'll say is that your 9-5 job is keeping you from the kitchen. Cook up, stock up, pack up, eat up!

I lived in the dorms for two years without access to a good grocery store.

I think if you look around, you'll find that you can "semi-clean" bulk by maximizing your protein intake while still minimizing "bad" fats. You're not going to get choice cuts of meat, but you'll still get your beef, chicken, pork, etc. There's bound to be rice, potatoes, and vegetables somewhere. Avoiding simple sugars except for when you are supposed to eat them is also really easy. Although I'll admit I ate a lot of cheeseburgers and pizzas, you can do it if you look around. You just have to look past all the crap that most kids eat daily (burgers, fries, pizza, ice cream, etc) to find the good stuff. The cafeteria is tempting you, don't give in!

Can your parents send you food? My parents sent me some tuna pouches and natty PB so at least had some decent food to eat.

To the people saying get a george foreman: most dorms don't allow you to have electronic appliances except for a microwave, because they are a fire hazard. You could sneak it in, but if they find it you'll get in trouble.

Thank God I am out of the dorms and can now eat whatever I want. /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

While I agree to a point, there is such thing as too dirty. When I dirty bulk, I at least watch my PCF ratios, and pizza is usually out of the question because of the ridiculously high fat content.

[/ QUOTE ]

Mr. King, I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you here. Several studies have been made on the anabolic effects of pizza, here are some quotes:

Vlad Egorov, bodybuilding maniac:

[ QUOTE ]
My research group has conducted a new study and found that pizza is number one builder of pure muscle dynamite.

[ QUOTE ]

A group of one Vlad has been eating pizza twice weekly for 8 weeks of bulking period. The results were at least to say very good. Vlad has gained a lot of pure muscle dynamite and managed to reduce bf% by whole 2%.

[/ QUOTE ]

Pizza And Muscless has interviewed Vlad with one week left into the study:

Q: Vlad, you have gained a tremendious amount of pure muscle dynamite, what's your secret?
A: Well, I'm using Cell-Pizza pre-workout for the ultimate boost of energy - cell-tri-complex-carbohydrates-ultra, you also want some amino acids running around your system meanwhile you are breaking down your body to the molecular level. Slow digesting protein. After the workout I use "window of pizzeria" to spike up my insulin and give my body the nutrients it needs to repair and build up new muscle tissue. Pre-bed I'm using Night-Time Pizza Pump by our favourite Cell-Pizza company.

Q: So, Vlad, what's so special about Cell-Pizza?
A: Well, it's the taste. Cheese, tomato-sous, white bread...man, it's the whole package.

Q: 99,9999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the world's population report gaining fat-unfree mass from Cell-Pizza products. Do you have any comments on it?
A: Well, I need to see a study on that. As long as they have no studies to back-up their claims. They are all liars.

Q: What does a perfect diet look like in your eyes, eys of fitness expert.
A: I'm glad you asked this question:
Meal 1: Pizza
Meal 2: Pizza
Meal 3: Pre-workout meal: 2 Pizzas
Meal 4: Pizza
Meal 5: Pizza
Meal 6: Pizza
Meal 7: Pizza
Meal 8: pre-bed meal: 3 pizzas

Q: Just looking at that diet and wow..what a masterpiece, but what about cholosterol levels?
A: Say what?

Yes, the study conducted is definitely showing the advantages of Pizza when in a bulking phase.

Luckily there are many versions of pizza available, so that one can always vary their diet.

Research also heavily back up that pizza is the best pre-workout meal conceivable. [1]

Also, it has been shown in tests that Pizza does induce muscle-growth from the second it enters the mouth [2]

As is evident from the studies posted, Pizza is only good for you on a bulk. On a cut one should keep pizzas to a minimum though, no more than 3 times a day.

Apparently, you are not aware of that if you have at least one tall glass of Fanta or Sprite daily, that problem will be corrected. [1]

This thread has gotten me to think about how much I really miss pizza, especially on this cut... It's a good thing I'll be off it in a couple of weeks.

Oh, and I JUST discovered how incredibly tasty oats and cottage cheese microwaved together are!! When I have the time I'll usually just eat oats and cottage cheese mixed with some boiling hot water to make a fairly thin kind of porridge of oats and cottage cheese but it's always pretty drippy and what not. Today I just used a friend's microwave (gotta get me one of those babies...) to nuke oats and 1/2 cup of Friendship brand CC (THE BEST BRAND EV4R, no arguments) and I was in heaven. The CC was so nice and gooey and the oats nice and warm and sticky with the cheese... Oh man, when I saw the cheese all stringy like that I knew I was gonna be in for a treat. Best PWO meal of my life. OF MY LIFE.
