Ok I know this is going to sound like a redudancy but I thought it was agreed upon that you should have your PWO meal or shake immediately following cardio or weightlifting. I read through the HIIT article again and saw at the bottom that it says:

Additional Options

There are those who recommend training first thing in the morning, or post workout when fat burning is at a high. If doing this, taking BCAAs may be an intelligent option before training. It is also recommended to not eat 30-60 minutes following the workout so as to maximize calorie expenditure from stored fat reserves. Once again, BCAAS may slow catabolism.

I have heard this before, but i dont recall hearing that advice on this site; just to have PWO nutrition immediately no matter what.

Does this have something to do with your basal metabolic rates PWO? So should I eat immediately PWO or wait 30-60min?

The goal of a BB is to grow muscle. Aerobic activity burns fat. When your body is in a catabolic state your body wants to store fat. Somewhere there has to be a trade-off when you want to build muscle and burn fat. So the article is recommending taking BCAA's to slow your body from going catabolistic so you will burn fat. Then you will be able to wait an hour post-aerobic workout in order to maximize fat burning. If you eat immediately after an aerobic workout there is more of a chance to burn the calories you just consumed and less of a chance to burn fat.

If that don't help maybe someone else can give it a shot.

What about immediately inhibiting muscle breakdown via cortisol?

that's why you take BCAA's beforehand, and you wait afterwards to eat to promote fat loss

So my pre-workout meal is usually 1cup oats and a 46gram protein shake. Does the protein shake provide enough BCAA's (ON brand) to suppress the cortisol or do you supplement more Branch chains by themselves Pre-workout?

Hopefully others will post... I, personally don't take BCAA's preworkout as they seemed to make me nauseous, and I actually leave mroe time between eating and working out, but that's beside the point. I say go for BCAA's beforehand, it won't hurt... (if you're worried about it)

The theory with BCAA's is that they may help sway your body toward using fatty acids for fuel. BCAA's are metabolized directly in the muscle unlike EAA's.

The 30-45 min wait period afterward is to allow any fat burning that you may have achieved during your cardio session to continue unimpeded. Then follow up with a very low glycemic meal as to not invoke any blood sugar problems..ie....insulin response.
