After all of the PWO shake threads I've read about, I'm curious about preworkout shakes. For someone like myself who is at school all day and trains in the evening, I've heard through the grape vine that if you take a simple whey protein shake (i.e. 1 scoop with 20 odd grams or so) before and afterwards that it helps your gains. I've tried it a bit so far and it seems to workout alright. But I'm still curious what the opinion is here.

I just heat up some oatmeal (in water for faster digestion) and add a scoop of way about 20-30 minutes before i workout.

thats not long enough, you should workout 45-90 after your preworkout meal. Most people wait an hour.

It works for me, I feel the energy. But I will take it into consideration next time I workout.

Good advice: Stop listening to grape vines.

An oats/whey shake is probably the best bet, as it gives you protein AND slow-burning carbs.

I drink my oats/whey shake 1 hour before my workout.

I grind up 1 cup of oats and then add the whey.

(Raw) oats + Whey at least 1 hour before a workout. You should rock the gym after that /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

1 to 1.5 hours should be respected.

i usually have oats and whey and hour before my work out. but sometimes i will have whole foods (chicken breast or tuna and oats). if so i just wait a little longer before hitting the gym.
