At the end of last night's leg workout, I just wasn't feeling a good burn, so I turned to my personal version of hell, and wanted to know if anyone else has tried this. Maybe a rest-pause, extended set?
I use a extension machine and pick a weight I can do for about 8 reps on one leg, and bang them out, then immediately switch legs for another eight. Immediately switch back to the first leg, and do as many as possible, typically 7 this time. Keep switching legs until I can't do even 1 full rep. Usually looks like 8,7,7,6,5,3,2,1,1,1,1 reps for each leg. Burn, burn burn. Thats one set. Do that three times and try to walk home after the rest of you leg work out!

I haven't seen that type of rep scheme anywhere, and was wondering you guy's take on it. Harmful? Beneficial? Neither?
I'll do it every couple of workouts when ever I feel I've got a bit left.

Very beneficial. I do something like that or do double negatives at the end of every workout with every body part on a machine of some sort. Yu calls them burnouts.

A burnout on the leg extension machine would look something like:

Alternating leg extensions to failure followed by power partials to failure, the drop the weight and go to failure plus power partials to failure at the end then add about 40% more weight and perform double negatives by using both legs to raise the weight and then let the weight come down using only the leg that you are assaulting at that point in time. Then alternate legs and do the same. Then do the whole thing over again 2-3 times.

It's absolutely brutal and could easily make up a newbies entire workout if done correctly with slow controlled reps and long peak contractions.
