Let me just get something stright here.... Oatmeal is the same as Rolled Oats??????? I think so, but here in New Zealand it is also called Poridge. So its a litle confusing.
Anyway, this is how I cook it.
1 cup of rolled oats, 1cup of water and 1 cup of Milk, also a pinch of salt. Put in Mircowave jug and cook for 3 minutes, stir and then cook for another 2 minutes. Sprinkle brown sugar (a little bit) on top and wait for it to melt, then add desried amount of milk to suit your taste/runnyness.
So... is this a good recipie?
I'm also curious as to why "oatmeal" is actually good for you in the mornings for breakfast. I know it is high in protein, is it high in calories and does it have heaps of energy in it for an active person like myself training 6 hours a day?
Thanks for the help,
Most people here just mix it with water and chug/chew it down. It's easier to get more of it down that way. It's good in the morning because it's a complex carbohydrate and gives you energy, so try it before workouts too!

I boil water, pour it on my rolled oats, and ta-da: oatmeal! Or I mix raw oats into a shake with whey, PB and water.
What do you do, training 6 hours a day?? /forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif

You grind up the oatmeal first before adding to a shake, right?

2 hours swimming in the morning, 1.5 hour weight training in the gym, and then 2 hour strecth/recovery session mid day, (e.g. very light swim) and then 2 hours night swimming session.
Is there anything wrong with putting brown sugar on it. I think I burn the fat doing all my cardio, so not worryed about it.
Also does complex carbohydrate get stored as energy or is it used straight away? or am I just thinking about somthing else? lol
Thanks for the help!

You dont want brown sugar (Simple carb) in the oats, because it takes away the point of having the oats(complex carb) The Complex carbs gets stored as glycogen for later use. I put splenda, salt, cinnamon, and peanut butter in my oatmeal. If its before or after a workout dont use milk.

Yer, I wasn't to sure about the brown sugar, I find it sweetens it up and makes it more enjoyable, I guess that I'm just not as "hardcore" as you guys!!!
Thanks for all of the replys guys!

Yes it does make it more enjoyable, but then again thats not the point of the oats. You could add some chocolate, or sweetarts. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I found that adding protein made it very watery, and sloshy, because you have to add more water to the oats, for the powder to be mixed. I love the way i have it:
Oats, peanut butter, cinnamon, and splenda....yummm

if you give the oats a little more in the first place (before cooking) then after cooking it is just right for the powder to get in there and not be lumpy

Are you saying that you add the powder before you cook the oats?

Once it had, cooked, do you guys then add more water/milk? Just to cool it down and make it not so thick?
