I do not see how Lysine(as free form) would help protein synthesis other than if you are lacking in it(the protein would be incomplete). Lysine is one of the 8 essential amino acids, and lacking it would be incomplete.

The only real reason I kow of to supplement with free form Lysine would be if you are for instance prone to cold sores, etc. (the herpes virus). If you take alot of L argininine for instance, this can make you more prone to the virus, so supplementing with Lysine can help here. Other than that, yes Lysine is needed, but only because it is an essential amino acid(as mentioned in my original post) and without it will make a protein incomplete. This is how it "aids" in protein digestion.
