This is probably a really stupid question but i've been wondering about it. Are calories from protein actually a source of energy (if you have other sources...im not talking about being catabolic or you didn't eat anything else so your body uses the protein as energy)? If someone is bulking shoulndt you not count cals coming from protein because your energy sources are from carbs and fats. I'm just wondering because I just started thinking about how if protein cals arn't used as energy, why should someone bulking count them?

Yes protein calories can be used by the body, but usually when submitted to starvation. Count protein calories in your diet.

Hah, if we didn't count protein calories in our daily diets, then we'd all be pretty hypercaloric!

But should one count protien calories at a lower rate since around a 25% of the calories in protien are wasted if it is used in glucogenesis.
