i just bought a bench. it is not set up for a sraight bar so i bought two free dumbells and figure that i can bench press with that. i have been told that having to use both arms and keeping the indivual barbells steady builds more muscle then a reguar straight bar. what do you guys think?

You should be using both. Barbells and dumbells both have thir advantages.

with the dbs your using your stabilizer muscles. i'd recomend it. only TWO dbs? Your not going very far with only 2.

Agreed!, and even if you are only doing dumbells you definitely need more then one weight.

thats a relief i would still try to try to invest in a barbell too.

i plan on it in the future, i want to see what kind of results i can get from this and if i am not satisfied i will buy a stand and get a barbell.
A bench like you have is perfect to use inside a power rack. Forget buying stands and invest in a rack.

you WILL get results and you MIGHT be satisfied. BUT you'd be more satisfied if you also incorporated a barbell but you'll get by with dbs for NOW.

like they said, the variation between dumbell and barbell is great

dumbells are great for stability and striation as they have a wide ROM and you have to balance each one individually throughout the whole range, barbells are better because they incorprate your two hands on one long bar, allowing you to not have to balance the weight left to right and be able to do more weight/work, which, adds mass... you need both
