If you don't like to do it, all the more reason to learn to like it. However, you can do parallel bar dips, weighted if you can.

Does your gym have an assisted parallel bar dip machine?

Cable flyes or any type of flye do not replace a compound movement like a decline presses. Sorry, learn to like them. If you have an assisted dip machine you can use those as well.

You really should be using all of them and cycling them in workouts rather than replacing a valuable movement like a decline press.

You have 2 options...a spotter or a power rack. You train at a gym or at home? If you train at home what equipment do you have?

as long as you don't squirm... and plant yourself correctly on the bench... you should be fine, i'd have some1 stand beside you at first, to see if your form is intact, and after that you'll be on your way, there's really nothing to be worried about, it kills the chest too /forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif

man dumbells require even more balance.. if he doesn't wanna do BBs... i doubt he'll want to use DBs

That's true... I am kind of wary while doing my decline with dumbells. Harder to keep them up straight.

Decline is the movement I'm least worried about getting squished under. If you want to be worried, worry about dropping weight on incline. On decline you can at least "unf!' it enough to get to the catch guards.

Decline on a smith machine with a barbell is quite easy to manage. I just worry with dumbells on decline.

I had the same worry with the decline BB press. Just start out with enough weight to get the feel of it. This will get you comfortable with the movement so you can jump up the weight. After about 3 sets, I felt comfortable enought to do them without a spotter.

It's how I do it as this place doesn't have a decline bench, just an ab bench that I can hook my feet in and det a decline angle.

how could you possible be worried about dropping the dumbells on yourself? If u fail just drop the dumbells to your sides. I am not seeing the logic of this....lol

Switch to a power rack. The decline Press is prob my most favorite exercise. It has really helped my lower pecs even out with my upper pecs. Just ask someone to spot or workout in with someone.
