Hey everybody,

This is my first time to this website and to posting. I had a question about injuries and I was really sure where to post it, but anyways, here is my question:

Is is better to weight train with an injury at a really light weight or is it better to just let it rest?

I have had a shoulder injury that has been bothering me for about two months and I decided to stop benching and doing military press to rest my shoulder and see if it would heal. During this time I concentrated on rehabing my shoulder with cable weights but it does not seem to be helping. I feel like the rehab isn't really working because in the past couple of weeks i decided just to try benching again at low weight to see how it feels, but my rotator cup in my right shoulder just hurts when the bar is all the way down. I am at about 75-80% of my normal reps/weight that I was before my hsoulder injury and have been lifting in spite or pain.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or comments, workouts, rehab...anything. Thanks-

Steve

I had the same problem. And it was me ignoring it, and refusing to see a doctor that led to me being out of commission for quite some time.

My advice, see a doctor ASAP, before it gets worse.

Also, how did you injure your shoulder, and what exactly were you doing when you injured it?

Check the doctor. I never train when injured unless its not serious. But i always check before I put myself in a position to make it worse.

As suggested, consult a physician. Definately allow time for the injury to heal before working it.

Hey Bryon,
Thanks for the reply. I think I am going to see a doctor this week about it. I was playing football and dove for a tackle with my right arm stretched out and landed weird. At first it didn't hurt, but after the game it just started to ache. I do not have full lateral or orizontal rotation. Thanks.

Oh, I have another question. Where can I go to get an accurate and wallet friendly body fat calculation?

I'm glad to hear your going to see a doctor. Hopefully, its just something minor. As far as a bodyfat calculation, I'd tell you to go to a local trusted/respectable gym and have a personal trainer measure your BF. Tell whoever tests you that you'd like a 9 site BF test, as its more acurate then the standard 3, or 4 site.

Definitely see a quality doctor. Any kind of sports clinic is usually best. I had a nagging shoulder injury for a while and finally went to the Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine Dept. to get it checked out. As it turned out, I had a bone chip floating around, I ripped part of the bicep off the bone, and ripped the cartilidge between the bones. I had arthroscopic surgery 5 weeks ago and have been in a sling until today when I started physical therapy.

Your injury may not be very painful all the time, but there could be some real damage in there.
