Ok So I am friends with this girl and she is amazing. She competes and is a trainer.www.maddyhoward.com. That is her website. Anyways she has been having problems and went to the doctor and they found and growth on her liver and are linking it to ingesting too much protien over time and plus when she was competing she had to take all this other crap. Personally I have downed my intake of protien just because I have heard about stuff like this one too many times. They say it is a build up of protien that her body didn't digest. Or something like that.

Hmmm. Scarey...

Things like that make me question my protein intake, but I guess I won't know until well, nevermind. I don't want to think about things like that...

I do because I have kids and I don't want health problems like that to worry about. You only have one body.It is find to be healthy and exercise but I have talked to many people who do not ingest all these supplements and look awesome. So is all this intake of stuff really helping or is it just a fad. Will we ever know?

What other "crap" are you talking about besides protein?

OMG no not steroids but pills that dehydrate the body to show all the cuts. She isn't big at all. She competed in fitness but I do not think body building. To look at her you would know what I mean.
www.maddyhoward.com (http://www.maddyhoward.com) is her website.

Maybe it was the diuretics then?

Well so far the doctors says it has something to do with the protien intake. But who knows and until they are done all their testing no one is going to know.

Perhaps it was a combination of her diet and supplements?

Keep us posted on the results of the tests! I hope your friend will be fine!

I read several articles that linked large consumption of protein with kidney problems for certain individuals, but haven't read any about liver problems, that's why I'd love to know more!

I wonder if it would have anything to do with all the growth hormones/pesticides/antibiotics that are ingested or administered to farmed animals and that inevitably end up in our meat nowadays?

Personally, I've tried and found that I just can't ingest that much protein (meat) in a day, my body just doesn't cooperate with that program... Plus now, I find that my diet which has quite a "normal" amount of carbs in it, works well for me (20-25% fat - 55-65% carbs - 15-25% protein). I just stay away from refine stuff and try to keep my carbs at a low GI... Note I said "TRY" :P

Cheers!
