Hey dude, my first postings here so id like to say 'hello' to everyone.
Well I'm in a bit of a predicament at the moment. I'm 18 years old and havent really grown for 2 years when i should have. Is there any type of diet/stretching technique/exercise regime i can do to make myself any taller?
I'm 175cm (5"9) and 148 pounds. I'm looking into starting bodybuilding but dont really want to jeapordise my growth should it be possible at the moment.
Any tips?
drinking milk or any stretching tips?

Much appreciated

Casper

They're isn't really any way to spur new growth in height. You are kinda out of luck with that. Genetics are genetics. You are only 18. The typical male grows in height up until about 21/22 years old. Bodybuilding will not stunt your growth by any means. That's just something your mother tells you because she doesn't want to see you get hurt lifting weights. Go bodybuild. Short guys look bigger easier anyways.

Theirs nothing you can do to make yourself taller but a good diet could help. You sayed you havn't grown in 2 years and your 18 so your growth plates have maybe fussed but I bet you'll probably grow another inch or so. Your not that short tho and your a good height for bodybuilding since as stated short guys look big.

I like the quotes you've got their GNoc! But as everyone else said, being shorter has a good advantage in powerlifting and bodybuilding!

I'm the same with Vlad, i'm only 5'9 and i'm happy with that height, i do think i'm tall probally cause i'm asian, tallest in my family /forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You could always do what Bart did in the simpsons, get platform shoes, a small dog to walk beside you, comb your hair up, wear shorter clothes....or heck just hang out with shorter frieneds /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif lol jks

You can't make yourself taller with good diet, but you can certainly stunt your growth if you don't have one. At the age of 12 I put myself on a 1200 calorie a day diet, thinking I was "fat". I spent the next 5 years as a bulimic. I never even reached my mother's height. I am 5'0" if I tease my hair, but that look pretty much went out about the time I graduated high school.

I don't believe there is anything you can do other than to make sure your body gets the nutrition it needs - the rest is genetics. It could be worse, you could be 5'5 like me!

Speaking of stunting your growth.. can someone please direct me to an article which proves bodybuilding does not stunt your growth!! I keep having arguments with people who strongly believe bodybuilding will stunt your growth, and would like to show them the evidence.

CasperUK
07-06-2004, 05:46 AM
Yeah i heard bodybuilding stunts growth too. Something about lifting above your head and it compressing the spine or to that effect. Apparantly it fuses the growth plates quicker in the spin thus limiting/stunting growth. I could be wrong however.

That is the explanation people give me when trying to convince me bodybuilding stunts growth. This is why I would like some evidence to prove or disprove this theory.

It sounds pretty logical though i think i mean i can see the cause-effect relationship between the two variables. I think it could be true. I would belive that. But then again, some people produce more HGH than others and it doesnt affect them as much.

If i was 5'9 i would be happy with it, it's a good height, not super tall but not short either. You have an extra 4 inches on me.

CasperUK
07-07-2004, 06:48 AM
Yeah but sometimes it feels inadequate, as i see little 14yr olds that are like 6"1 and stuff these days. I dont understand how kids are growing so fast, i mean they are skinny as hell so i dont know if it diet, and lots of them have short parents too so i dont know how they are pulling it off? I mean i was 5"5 when i was 14 and i thought i was tall, these dudes are 8" taller relative to what i was.

Don't smoke or drink. Eat Healthy. Almost all of your height is coming from genetics though.

And I never sayed that a good diet will make him taller. I sayed it might help because I feel that if your body is provided with everything it needs to gorw it would be easier for it to do so.

I'm kinda in the same place, im 5'6, I started lifting weights when i was in 8th grade, even thou it was only for a 45min a day, I think it did have a big effect on the growth. I heard this from doctors millions of times. when muscles tighten they prevent the whole bone from growing as fast, thats why stretching should be done in anycase, and things like military press will have a negative effect. there are physical therapy that streteches out ur spine and does promote growth. maybe like an inch in a year or something but it works,

aussie_muscle

I don't think there is anyway of getting taller. I think its just plain and simple genetics. If god wanted you to be tall then you'd be tall. Be happy with who you are. Remember you are unique in your own way.

Yup I've heard Mike Tyson is about 5"9 too (not the 5"11 as quoted) and he doesnt seem to shabby in the physique or intimidation stakes. Who knows, i have read though that there is a product called B-Growth that can MAYBE give you up to 3.5" extra in height, but requires consistent use, rigorous exercises over a 12 week period and it will 95% of the time yield results. Only problem is the price, something like $120 for 6 months use. But i have heard that if u use it for upto a year u can get maybe like 6" of growth and have heard many succes stories for people over 19 and stuff. Think it is true or a hoax?

Yes, that B-Growth product is a scam. Do a "B-growth scam" search on google, and you'll see plenty of people claiming it is. If you want, you might want to try out this guy's methods at www.easyheight.com (http://www.easyheight.com) to increase you height an inch or two. I've read his research, and his theories seem valid (for me anyways). What do you guys think?

no there is a way to 're-open' the plates, i just dont think that the gains would be massive like the reported 3-6 inches as some people claim. I believe now that if youngsters want to grow taller, they should have a calcium rich diet between 12-17 with a regular intake of milk of around 1-2litres. I mean my little cousin is only 14 years old and is growing like a rocket (our dads are brothers, same height too, 5"6, as with our mums who are about 5"1 each too) and he is around 6"2 tall, i asked him and he said, lots of sleep, sport, drinking milk and pigging out on food like chicken etc. He'll probably grow to around 6"5 or something like that I'm guessing.

I think I'd in this matter, if you have to ask
1. "..do you think there is any truth in this" or
2. "..is it scam". Your answers are going to be

1. No and
2. YES

I'd watch it bro, I agree Yu can be a little rough to CERTAIN people, but it is all because he deals with thousands of people tellin him he's wrong in his profession because their mommy told them diff. He is still a Co-Admin and is practically the same as your boss here. So please so respect. And I have NEVER seen a real attack on ones character come from Joe or any other Admins, mods or PO's. And besides I prefer that Joe is straight up as opposed sugar coating stuff, so people can dream you growth plates into de-ossification.
