Walking and jogging are not running, bro. You cannot run a mile if you walk and jog.

Not sure how old you are, but for teenagers, it should probably be around 8, as others have said. As an athlete (bodybuilder) you should be able to run AT LEAST that, if you can't, I suggest you run more often. Cardio Vascular endurance is very important, and it will help make sure your heart is healthy. Lifting is one of the most stressful things the heart has to deal with ( I think... from what I heard pressure skyrockets when you are lifting)

I run it around 5:10 I would think (I'm a track man)

I only run when being chased...and at my present size I dont find too many people that can make me run, so my 1 mile time is: /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gifallday, while singing a song and stroling along... walking on in a winter wonderland /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I run easy at a 10 min pace - I run hard at a little under 9 min pace. And I am running at either pace. I do not jog. I am a runner. /forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I ran a marathon in a little over 10 min pace. I'm a 40 yr old female. Hope that helps give a little perspective. (Oh, and I run intervals on hills at a little under 10 min pace too.) /forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Personally I can run 1 mile in 5:50, and if I am going longer distances (7-10 miles) then I run a 7 - 7.5 minute pace. Most people that are in decent shape that I know can break 8:30, and most run at least 7:30.

Around 8 minute for males should be right for standard. But I mean if you're like a fricking huge lineman football player then I donno about 8 minutes....

[/ QUOTE ] If this is just for one mile run, yeah...but I take issue with this if you mean a sustained pace for several miles. I know several in "decent" shape people (myself included) that do not run at these speeds. The further I am running - the slower my pace. Long distance days are closer to 10 min pace, 6mi and less are closer to 9 min pace.

Well...that is how you get started. Don't be so hard on him. I started by walk/running and before long I was completely running and within the year I ran a full 26.2 mile marathon. /forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

P.S. If I seem a little defensive it is because I am!!! /forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Someone has to take up for us slower RUNNERS! Not everyone is speedy but at least we're out on the road and not on the couch w/ a bag of Lays! /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Also....how to tell a "real" runner. "Real" runners wear dri-fit - not cotton sweats. Bleah! /forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

i stopped running because it caused me to lose some of my good bulk. I suggest powerwalking.

Walking is a fantastic exercise, and can be done at varying degrees of intensity. Subtle variations in stride and technique can also be incorporated.

Great for calf development, too. /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

One thing to keep in mind is where you are going to be running the mile. If you use a treadmil to time your mile, it's probably going to be slower. I know it is for me. I can almost be at a sprint on the treadmil and it still says that I'm running a mile slower then when I do it outside.

I hate running so I don’t know what my time would be. But I think 7-8 min may be optimistic. I wonder what an average time for professional bodybuilders would be.
I should try running again sometime, my dog would love it.

What! Running is so much fun, especially with friends. I used to be on track and most of my friends would run sub 5:30 and I usually run sub 6 miles. But when we all started way back when the average was I think 7 min miles, this average is from like 30 people so I don't know if its any help.

I think military basic training requires a 6:30 mile. However, I am slow and do about a 12 minute mile. I'm sure most people could walk faster. Need to lose some weight, too fat, too heavy. 6'2" and 250 lbs. Stop lifting weights and run more, then just lift for shape. 65 years old doesn't help either. Good luck.

I would expect the avg male time to be around 8-10 minutes. I get the job done inbetween 5 and 6 minutes.

When I was in basic( Air Force ) I had to run the 2 mile in under 6 minutes. Now they make us do only 1.5 miles in under 11 minutes, that's the Air Force for you.

2 Miles in 6 minutes!!! 3 minutes per mile. The world record is 3:43 for one mile. Must be typo.

Well, when I was running 6 days a week, I did 5 miles in 30 min..definetely not 65% V02 Max.

Running is incredible but need to stay away from it, 'cause I like it too much.

I just started running twice a week and I am worried that this will make it hard for me to put on muscle mass, especially since I just started lifting just recently and need to gain some serious muscle weight. Can someone clarify this for me?

On your cardio, you need to make sure that you are doing 65% V02 Max from 30-60 min or if you are going to use running as HIIT, then that's another story.

It depends on how many miles you're running. It's slower if you're running a 10k rather than just a mile. The fastest time I ever ran was 4:51. A long time ago when I was in great cardio shape and young. I don't time it anymore, but it's not very good.

I think that most people in America cannot run a continuous mile. Most people on ABC could probably run a mile but not in the times posted here. I'm guessing that the people who are posting tend to be the ones that pay more attention to cardio than average strength trainers. With that in mind, I think everyone posting in this thread are running a mile in impressive times. I know you are just trying to get a sense of what a good time is for running a mile, but if you can't use a time as a motivating tool then don't sweat it. Excercise is a personal thing and you shouldn't get too caught up in what others are doing. It can be easy to get discouraged if you are running a 14 min mile and people on this board are telling you how they run it in 6 min. Remember that everyone had to start somewhere and seldom did anyone start at 6 min. Good Luck to you and keep at it!

I just had my school cross country recently. It was 3k, or 2 miles for you guys. I ran it in 13 minutes 23 seconds. Now i don't do any running training, and dont consider my self a long distance runner, so id have to say about 6-7 minutes.
