Nice response Mr. King. I no doubt beleive that creatine is safe but I have been doing research on it to fully understand the supplement.

I'm just a little confused as to why its not in the FDAs jurisdiction. Couldn't the FDA technically approve creatine if they wanted too? From reading some other articles seems like they are waiting to pull the plug on creatine.

"The FDA would argue that since a few people can't figure out how to limit their consumption of creatine to safe levels, then the substance should be removed from the reach of the entire population." -- http://www.newstarget.com/z001120.html

"A 1998 FDA report lists 32 adverse creatine-associated events that had been reported to FDA. These include seizure, vomiting, diarrhea, anxiety, myopathy, cardiac arrhythmia, deep vein thromboses and death." -- http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/DSH/creatine.html

My next quesiton would be why is there such a misconception about the supplement when there is so much research on it and why would the FDA claim that it might have caused death?

Why can't the FDA regulate nutritional supplements. Don't they have the final say that people can or can not consume(eat, drink, inject, etc) legally?

It is not approved by the FDA because the FDA does not regulate nutritional supplements. It does not fall within their jurisdiction...Creatine is safe, but like all supplements and herbs, it is not regulated.

If the FDA can ban Ephedra, why can't they do the same or approve Creatine? -- http://www.ephedra.com/fda.htm

Thanks for everyones input and helping in my understanding!

I have a question.

I heard that when taking creatine together with dextrose at the same time then the creatine will remain in the stomach longer while the dextrose already reaches the blood stream and later when the creatine finally reaches the blood stream the insuline peak is already gone and because of this we should first take the creatine then wait 30 minutes and then take dextrose. Is this true?

Someone probably got dehydrated and died of heat stroke, which while not a direct result of creatine, it's supplementation in this case certainly would not have helped the situation. But even still, this is an ad hoc.

Yes! very true. Thanks for clearing everything up.

more interesting articles relating to heat-stroke....

If not taken properly creatine could be dangerous? SHOULD the FDA regulate supplements?

Read my meta-analysis, I discuss all of this.

Ive read it and it is excellent.

No doubt that creatine is safe. The biggest problem associated is the potential of dehydration if you don't consume enough water. I think that is what has all the non-beleivers bent out of shape over the supplement.

btw I have 1000grams coming to me in the mail as we speak /forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I've posted over 1000 studies in this thread, and reviewed 250 studies in my meta-analysis. Read them before making comments like this.

^ Hahaha.

Anywho, should you stop taking creatine when you are on penicillin? Im going to the doctor because of this illness, Ive been out from school all week, and worse: I havent worked out since last saturday. I think I have some sort of bacterial infection, mainly because of the amounts of mucus I cough up all the time, and because of the fact that my snore is colorless.

Hey Joe when taking creatine in the morning do u think it is best to take it 15 mins after breakfast as u recommended with the PWO shake? Also regarding the PWO workout shake, are the dextrose and malto meant to be taken during both phases or only the first. And lastly if taking glutamine before a workout, how soon before is it best to take it because usually half hour prior to my workouts im consuming 500ml of water. thanks!
