I'm drinking around 16 - 19 8oz glasses of water, which I calculated according to the formula and my weight (225). Is this too much?

I'm not sure that's enough!

Holy jeez! Not enough?! Nozzle, how much should I be drinking then? Isn't the formula (0.55) times your body weight and then divide by 8?

I don't know what the formula is. I just know that I'm a girl that weighs about 135 lbs and I drink 6-8 22 oz glasses of water at work alone. That doesn't include the gallon I drink while I work out, the water in my PWO shake, and the water I drink in the evenings at home after work.

Here's the formula from the How to Assess Yourself article under the nutrition tab.
[ QUOTE ]
One of the more frequently asked questions concerning water consumption is exactly how much an athlete should drink. The absolute best formula is to take your bodyweight and multiply it by .55. That is about how much water you should drink in ounces every day. For example a bodybuilder who weighs 202 lbs; should drink 111 oz ( 202 x .55 )of water every day. If you are a long-distance runner or are exercising in a hot area, multiply your bodyweight by .66

Yeah I drink a gallon while here at work. I may drink another gallon during work outs. I don't want to say what is right for you, because I don't know.
I don't think I have ever heard of anyone that has had serious health issues from drinking too much water.

I drink about 4L a day, which is roughly what the formula says I should. I also piss all the time, its annoying.

I've heard you can become "drunk" from water, something about superhydration. It was an article I read in the paper, thought it was hilarious /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif *Staggering around after drinking 10 gallons of water*

Well, I'm thirsty a lot so if I don't drink that much I tend to get dehydrated.
And I'm hungry ALL the time, so drinking helps to fill in the voids.
I haven't stumbled around drunk or anything either.

The only thing about too much water is in situations where you are forced to chug an enormous amount of water at one sitting in a short amount of time. The water will go to your head causing encephalitis which puts too much pressure on the brain causing braindamage and death. This has happened in fraternity initiations before. Other than that, I know of no side effects from drinking too much water.

Its called hyponatremia. By drinking too much water, blood plasma increases and dilutes the salt content and electrolytes of the blood - wich interferes with brain, heart, and muscle functions.

Yeah, it's tough...especially at work. I work in a lab and have to wash up (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) every time I come into/leave the lab, plus after leaving the bathroom. So I'm in and out like 8 times per day...dries up my hands something fierce.

Yeah I am weighing in at about 220, so drinking as much as 256 ounces a day is easy. It works out to be about 16 ounces per every waking hour.
Don't think I am in any health danger of depleting any nutrients, since I eat six meals and take supps too.

I drink around a gallon a day give or take a few ounces here and there. I think a lot depends on your intake of supps like creatine or caffiene etc.

Yeah the death from water is usually an effect of ecstacy, which causes extreme dehydration and thirst.. probably relates to the fraternity initiations
