I'm sick of ME. I have a 98 a disc and am going to reformat my computer in the near future, but, I need to know if there is a way I can un-install ME at all? Even if I don't have the uninstall files listed in my add/remove programs list.

Thanks.

only way to uninstall it is go into dos

Format C: (enter)
Y (enter) lol

you cannot down grade.. mircosoft basically made it impossible.. UNLESS u upgraded from 98 to ME then u can uninstall if u kept all the temp files (which is unlikely usually default deletes them), but when you deal with upgrading and uninsalling i wouldn't do it.. always ends up crap in the end, unstable programs won't work right ect ect.. U should always start clean

Yeah, I figured I'd probably end up having to format anyways. I wish I had hdpart. Ah well. I guess I'll just have to format without hdparting.

You can create one with partition magic. First time i formated i made a partition to backup data now I got like 5 partitions.

You could always use software like BootIT NG. It's a bit advanced, but once you get the hang of it it is really easy to backup whole disks. I have 5 partitions too. One is for Windows, the second is installed software, third is games, fourth is for downloads that I want to backup, and fifth is for stuff that is too huge to bother (Ie: television shows, backed up DVDs, MP3s). I can easily fit the first 4 partitions in 4 DVDs, and back those up once every two weeks.

Once you are backed up you can play with the partition sizes, move files over to the new partition, wipe C:, and then reinstall Windows 98. Word to the wise, though, is that Windows 98 is no longer supported. You will not even be able to install the next upgrade of Internet Explorer on it.

If you really want to do it there are still patches available on the Windows website. I would manually download all patches, and try to snag a "full install" of Internet Explorer while you still can. I ran into this issue with a Windows 95 machine that could not run IE 5 properly (just too slow). After 5 was established for awhile then 4 went away, and same thing with 5 since 6 has been around for so long. The only place to get these are now non-legitimate sites.

If you want to take the time to learn Linux and you have enough extra space, you can install Linux on a newly made partition, then delete the Microsoft partition at a later date. This way you can also save lots of your data from your Microsoft partition.

There are lots of forums online where you can learn your way through it, while you have your Microsoft partition intact. If you are somewhat computer literate, it is doable. The good thing about Linux is that there are a million different programs and operating systems available, all for free, but the quality is not exactly up to par with Microsoft and related programs. Also, if you want to add programs that are not so popular, things can get kind of technical.

Odd, it appeared as a new thread the other day. I haven't done a search for awhile so it's not me, I swear!

It was a "new" thread... the odd thing was that a spammer did his spamming on a 3 year old thread.
