"Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do."
Often we don't think about the pain that he went through.
But I can tell you the torture and crucifixion of the Lord Jesus was no small task.
Jesus had the weight of the world on his shoulders. Even before the crucifixion, began he clearly had physical symptoms associated with severe stress. The night before the execution, his disciples reported seeing Jesus in "agony" on the Mount of Olives.
Not only did he not sleep all night, but he had been sweating profusely. So great was the stress that tiny blood vessels were rupturing in his sweat glands and emitting as great red drops that fell to the ground (see Luke 22:44). This condition was noted by Luke, who was a physician.
There is a medical term for this and it is called Hematohidrosis which can be explained like this; around the sweat glands there are multiple blood vessels in a net-like form. Under the pressure of great stress the vessels constrict. Then as the anxiety passes the blood vessels dilate to the point of rupture. The blood goes into the sweat glands, it pushes the blood to the surface-
coming out as droplets of blood mixed with sweat.
Jesus was blood soaked when He was arrested.
Having previously been beaten by the Jews, it was now the Romans' turn.
http://christiananswers.net/godstory/hitting-jesus.jpg
The temple officers who held Jesus ridiculed Him and spit in His face. And when they had blindfolded Him, they punched Him and slapped Him on the face, and then said, "Prophesy you holy man. Who hit you?"
http://christiananswers.net/godstory/thorns.jpg
The soldiers pushed a crown of thorns onto Jesus' head, and then put a purple robe on Him. Mocking Him, and beating Him with their fists.
Before the crucifixion Jesus was sentenced to scourging.
The beatings administered by Roman soldiers are well known to be very bloody, leaving lacerations all over the body. Romans designed their whips to cut the flesh from their victim's bodies, the whip was called the cat of nine tails for the fact that it had nine small whips which made one large whip. These beatings were designed to be painful to the extreme.
http://www.christiananswers.net/godstory/jesus-beaten.jpg
It would also cause a fluid build up around his lungs.
The whip used on Chirst's back was a cat of nine tails; Designed to lacerate flesh. The cat of nine tails was used to get people to confess or talk via torture.
http://blindkat.hegewisch.net/pirates/kat9.gif
The first century historian FLAVIOUS JOSEPHUS noted that “certain rebel Jews were torn to pieces by the scourge before being crucified” (The Jewish War 1-111 Cambridge Mass, Harvard Press, 1927 and Jewish Antiquities books IX-XI Cambridge Mass.: Harvard Press, 1937).
Note also it was unlawful for Jews to scourge past 40 lashes and they stopped at 39, but there was no limit for the Romans.
We do know Christ took enough of a beating he could not carry his own cross, and died so fast via crucifixion His legs did not need to be broken to speed up death.
Eusabious of Ceasare, a 3rd century historian, described scourged victims “their bodies were frightfully lacerated. Christian martyrs in Smyrna were so torn by the scourges that their veins were laid bare, and the inner muscles, sinews, even entrails, were exposed”. (Westminster Dictionary of the Bible page 538)
Deep stripelike lacerations were usually associated with considerable blood loss” (Dr. Edwards 1986 JAMA, Vol. 225, pg. 1457.) A Roman scourging was considered a long and slow death penalty from which only the gods could save the victim from. The victim usually died in 2-3 days from blood loss and infection.
“ Scourging would so weaken the condemned that his time on the cross would be shortened, possibly an unintentional mercy”. (Readers Digest - Jesus and His Times 1973 pg. 256-257).
It was unlawful for the Jews to scourge past 40 lashes and they would stop at 39, but the Romans could use their discretion.
<font color="blue"> 3 Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.
</font>
The prophet Isaiah predicted the brutal beating Christ would endure...
<font color="blue">Isaiah- I gave my back to the smiters </font>
We may never know the exact amount of lashes, but gentiles were often known to give prisoners up to 300 lashes.
Check out Psalms, this prophetic chapter predicted Christ's marred condition,
<font color="green"> 17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
</font>
Jesus was whipped with such hard cruel lashes, that his bones, sinews and veins protruded through his skin.
Paul said, of the Jews five times I received forty stripes "except one time", that one time he may have received hundreds of lashes.
God' word recorded two hundred stripes, how many others Paul took are not known.
Scriptures teach, to give more than 40 lashes, meant, you thought a person was disgusting, and vile.
Hebrew law teaches, a man was to be whipped, only when lying on his face.
The custom of Gentiles was to beat a person when tied in an upright position, or while thrashing about on the ground.
Roman whips often put out their victims eyes, removed their nose, ears, and left their bodies open to the ravages of infection before a slow death took them.
We know this much Isaiah told us:
<font color="brown"> 13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.
14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
</font>
http://christiananswers.net/q-eden/jesusscouraged.gif
In fact the scourging usually killed before the actual crucifixion.
In addition, a crown of thorns was forced into his scalp which was capable of severely irritating major nerves in his head, causing increasing and excruciating pain, as the hours wore on.
Another brutatlity Jesus endured was getting his beard ripped off.
<font color="red"> 6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting. </font>
In Christ's severely stressed condition, these beatings were easily enough to kill him. His body was horribly bruised, cut and bleeding. Having had no nourishment for many hours, and having lost fluids through profuse sweating and much bleeding, Jesus would have been severely dehydrated. This brutal torture would certainly be sending him into what doctors call "shock," and shock kills.
In addition, Jesus was forced to carry the the wooden beam on which he would die. Imagine the effect of carrying a heavy weight if you were in that condition.
Hung completely naked before the crowd(this was done to shame the victim), the pain and damage caused by crucifixion were designed to be so devilishly intense that one would continually long for death, but could linger for days with no relief.
According to Dr. Frederick Zugibe, piercing of the median nerve of the hands with a nail can cause pain so incredible that even morphine won't help, "severe, excruciating, burning pain, like lightning bolts traversing the arm into the spinal cord." Rupturing the foot's plantar nerve with a nail would have a similarly horrible effect.
http://www.christiananswers.net/godstory/peirced-feet.jpg
Furthermore, the position of the body on a cross is designed to make it extremely difficult to breathe.
Frederick Farrar described the intended, torturous effect: "For indeed a death by crucifixion seems to include all that pain and death can have of horrible and ghastly--dizziness, cramp, thirst, starvation, sleeplessness, traumatic fever, tetanus, shame, publicity of shame, long continuance of torment, horror of anticipation, mortification of untended wounds--all intensified just up to the point at which they can be endured at all, but all stopping just short of the point which would give to the suffer the relief of unconsciousness."
One doctor has called it "a symphony of pain" produced by every movement, with every breath; even a slight breeze on his skin could bring screaming pain at this point.
James Thompson believed that Jesus did not die from exhaustion, the beatings or the 3 hours of crucifixion, but that he died from agony of mind producing rupture of the heart. His evidence comes from what happened when the Roman soldier pierced Christ's left side. The spear released a sudden flow of blood and water (John 19:34). Not only does this prove that Jesus was already dead when pierced, but Thompson believes it is also evidence of cardiac rupture. Respected physiologist Samuel Houghton believed that only the combination of crucifixion and rupture of the heart could produce this result.
Jesus literally, "died of a broken heart". /forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Near the end, a criminal beside him mocked, "If you are the Christ, save yourself and us." Little did this sinner know that the man he was speaking to hung there voluntarily. He was speaking to our Creator, capable of releasing all the power in the universe and beyond, and easily saving himself. Jesus remained in this agony and shame, not because he was powerless, but because of his incredible love for humanity. He suffered to provide the needed way of salvation for you and me.

It is painful to even begin to contemplate what the Lord went through. This aspect of your post was something else

And today the same can be said. Each of us has an opportunity to know Jesus, and have a personal relationship with him.
<font color="green"> John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. </font>
Jesus loved us enough to give his life for us. And now he extends his nail scarred hands to us
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

The most efficient tool for this is a bible concordance. What it does is give you key words to look up, and the verse will pop up! I highly recommend you use this site,
cross walk. (http://bible.crosswalk.com/) Put the version you want, book in the bible, type in a key word, press enter, and verses will pop up. This is a great tool . /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
For example on this verse you could have typed in "for his friends" under King James and Gospels, and would have gotten 4 verses. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif It's very good. /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Luke 23
1Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate. 2And they began to accuse him, saying, "We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Christ,[1] a king."
3So Pilate asked Jesus, "Are you the king of the Jews?"
<font color="red"> Yes, it is as you say," </font>Jesus replied.
4Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no basis for a charge against this man."
5But they insisted, "He stirs up the people all over Judea[2] by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here."
6On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean. 7When he learned that Jesus was under Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.
8When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform some miracle. 9He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer. 10The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him. 11Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate. 12That day Herod and Pilate became friends--before this they had been enemies.
13Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people, 14and said to them, "You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him. 15Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death. 16Therefore, I will punish him and then release him."[3]
18With one voice they cried out, "Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!" 19(Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)
20Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. 21But they kept shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!"
22For the third time he spoke to them: "Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him."
23But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. 24So Pilate decided to grant their demand. 25He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.
The Crucifixion
26As they led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. 27A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. 28Jesus turned and said to them, <font color="red"> "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. 29For the time will come when you will say, 'Blessed are the barren women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!' 30Then
" 'they will say to the mountains, "Fall on us!"
and to the hills, "Cover us!" '[4] 31For if men do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?" </font>
32Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals--one on his right, the other on his left. 34Jesus said, <font color="red"> "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."</font>[5] And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
35The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, "He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One."
36The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37and said, "If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself."
38There was a written notice above him, which read:|sc THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
39One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!"
40But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? 41We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong."
42Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[6] "
43Jesus answered him, <font color="red"> "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise." </font>
Jesus' Death
44It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46Jesus called out with a loud voice, <font color="red"> "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."</font> When he had said this, he breathed his last.
47The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, "Surely this was a righteous man." 48When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away. 49But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
Jesus' Burial
50Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, 51who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea and he was waiting for the kingdom of God. 52Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body. 53Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid. 54It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.
55The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. 56Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.
************************************************** **********
Also realize, while he was hanging there going through all the physical pain every sin you and I have ever committed
was cast upon him. It as if while hanging there a huge bucket of sewage was thrown upon him adding insult to the massive injury he was sustaining.
Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice for one as unworthy and lowly as me! I know that I have no righteousness except through you. Let me always be aware and never take this gift for granted.
Amen

From the time of Abraham there has been a blood offering for the forgivness of sins. At Yom Kippur (the day of atonement) the jewish people would confess their sins to the priest. The priest wold then lay his hands on the scape goat and the goat would be released out into the wild taking the sins of the people of Israel with it. There would also be a sacrificial lamb. A lamb perfect and without blemish. The lamb would be slaughtered as a blood offering as an act of aronement for the sins of the people. In effect, the lamb would take the place of the tribes of Israel.
Well, Jesus is the scape goat and sacrifical lamb. He is Holy and without sin yet like the sacrifices of old he became sin and the blood sacrifice in our place.
That is my understanding.

Great link CP. And there are so many more reasons heen!
Revelation 5:1-5
1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? 3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. 4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. 5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
Matthew 28: 16-20
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Colossians 2:13-15
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Colossians 1:12-29
12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his F1 dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. 21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled 22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
Revelation 1:18
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Christ literally conquered everything! All things are under his feet, as Paul said he made a public shame of all spiritual wickedness! And has given unto us eternal life, and life so much more abundantly through the shedding of his blood in the New Covenant. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Hebrews 10:1-18
1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. 5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: 6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. 7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. 8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; 9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. 15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
But this aint it, he also rose again on the 3rd day. We'll go over that as well. /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
And there is much more, such as the gift of His Holy Spirit.

The Old Testiment( Jewish Bible ) Prophesies why Jesus had to suffer.
You can listen to the whole prophesy by clicking here (http://bible.crosswalk.com/cgi-bin/audio-bible.pl?translation=kjv&title=Isaiah%2053:1-12&file=Isaiah_053&start=1.67&end=)
It states exactly what Jesus must endure and why. If you really study that prophesy you can see exactly why Jesus died for us. In fact, from Genesis in the Jewish bible, through the last book, it is prophesied that the Christ must suffer for our sins, and be crucified.
<font color="blue"> Isaiah 53: 1 - 12 -
1 Who hath believed our report F242? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded F243 for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid F244 on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison F245 and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; F246 because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. 11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

I just have one question - considering he was so powerful - how come he broke down emotionally and physically the night before? I understand that he was in shape of a human, but still. It's a bit confusing...
[/ QUOTE ]
Good question William. You are right, he was all-powerful, and did not have to do this. But he did for our sakes:
Matthew 26:47-56
47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. 49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. 51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear. 52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. 53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? 55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. 56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
He could have called down legions of angels and blasted them all! Right now he could destroy the whole universe with a thought. /forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Paul also comments on this:
Hebrews 2:5-9
5 For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak. 6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him? 7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: 8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. 9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
Christ went through all this for us. Suffering a horrible death. Now why was he greaved?
Luke 22:39-46
39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. 40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. 41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, 42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. 43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. 45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
John 12:27-36
27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. 28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. 29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. 30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. 31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. 33 This he said, signifying what death he should die. 34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man? 35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. 36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
He was grieved because he knew what he was about to suffer. And the horrible events listed above by Old school. So though he had all power, and was God. He laid everything down, came in the flesh and suffered for all mankind. /forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I think he also must have been terribly grieved by the fact that even though he was doing this for all of humanity that only a few of his children would actually accept the gift.
I think really that might have been hardest of all for him knowing that he was making a way that som many would chose not to take.
Just imagine, ecspecially those who are parents, having a sick child and telling that child "here is your medicine, the medicine that will make you well and keep you from dying, I can't make you take it you have to take it yourself"! Then watching as that child refuses to take the medicine and dies. I know I'd be beside myself with agony and tears.
The point is Jesus could very easily force us to bow down and worship him but he doesn't he leaves it up to us. He wants us to Choose to love him.

He was innocent. The Pharisees wanted him dead because
He exposed them for what they were- unholy men.
Jesus described them as white washed tombs. Beautiful on the outside, but inside full of dead men's bones!
Jesus' death was necessary though for the forgiveness of sins.
Animal sacrifice can only cover sins, it can't take them away.
For example in Genesis the sins of Adam and Eve were covered with the clothing God made for them from animal skins(I believe the animal was a lamb)
In Leveticus, the blood of rams and bulls was used to cover the sins of the nation of Israel.
But with the death of the sinless Christ, the sins of THE WORLD were taken away.
Here is a simple explanation bro.
Take a coffee cup and set it in front of you.
Now imagine that your index and middle fingers represent you and your sins.
Now take and dip your fingers in the coffee cup.
The coffee cup represents The Lord Jesus.
When we accept his sacrifice we are fogiven.
When God looks at us he doesn't see our sinful self, he only sees the cup!
When we accept Jesus and his sacrifice, we are taking on his righteousness and perfection!

You make a great point Rich. I believe he was also very saddened about his chosen people Israel:
Luke 13:31-35
31 The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee. 32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. 33 Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. 34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! 35 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Romans 10:18-21
18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. 19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. 20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me. 21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
As prophesied, the Jews killed Christ as they killed the other prophets. And continue to deny his precious blood. /forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif But God still has a remnant left. /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No quite the oppisite. He knew what he was doing and why he was doing it. At that very moment the Trinity was seperated. Christ had the whole of sin cast upon him. He actually was sin at that moment. That being the case, God being holy, could not look at him and turned his back on his Son, himself. That my friend is the ultimate price of sin, being seperated from God and Jesus did that. He suffered, was seperated from God and faced death for us.
He knew exactly what he was doing and why. However, this knowledge didn't make the beating hurt any less. This knowledge didn't make the crown of thorns that was thrust upon his head any less painful. It certainly didn't ease the pain of the nails being driven into his extremities and the fact that his father turned away from him still was more than any of us could bear.

Just an interesting tidbit here. In the old testament, Isaiah or one of the books with lots of prophecy, it said the Messiah would be crucified. The interesting thing about that prophecy is the fact that crucifixion hadn't been invented yet. That was said 750 years before crucifixion was invented by the Romans. And there have been archaeological digs that have uncovered the bones of the arn/wrist/hand, with a nail still through it, and they weren't small nails either, they were like a foot long and at least an inch square! Just a little more insight on what my Lord went through.

[/ QUOTE ]
But yeah, He defenietly knew. It was prophesied by Isaiah and numerous other prophecies hundreds of years ahead of time, as well as by Jesus Himself numerous times.
He knew he was coming to take our sins.
That's why he said at the passover, "For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins".
When he cried "My God, My God why hast thou forsaken me?"
At that time he took our hell for us.
That's what many don't understand about hell.
What makes hell hell is the fact that it is eternal seperation from God. That is why Jesus said there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
At that moment Jesus took on our hell for us, and paid the price we deserved.
It is also interesting how that is the only time we see Jesus crying out in torment. We don't read any descriptions of his crying out during the physical torture he endured, only the spiritual agony of being seperated from His Father.

It is the post of the year. One of the most unimagionable aspects of this post, was when Adam desribed the feeling produced from the endless waves of nerve sensations in the medial nerve. Truly unspeakble. Even to this day, our Lord bares those scars.
But, what an incredible occation, as today he has risen and conquered death completely!
Adam Knowlden

His death and resurrection are paramount to everything we stand for!
If Jesus had just died and never risen from the dead, our faith would be in vain.
<font color="red"> 1Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
</font>
Saved to what end? If Christ did not rise from the dead, we are ultimately lost. Upon His resurrection rests our entire belief in Him and our faith!
The Resurrection of the Dead-
<font color="red"> 12But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. </font>
Without the Resurrection we are hopeless and a lost cause. /forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif
<font color="red"> 15More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. </font>
And to compound that, if Christ is not risen, we are false witnesses of God! That would also make Jesus a liar, for He said, that the Son of Man must be killed and in three days would rise agian, that also makes all the prophecies in the bible liars!
<font color="red"> 16For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. </font>
And to make it even worse we are still dead in our sins! Without the resurrection of Jesus we have no salvation and no future with God.
<font color="green"> 18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.
</font>
Without the resurrection we have no hope like the unbelievers. No assurance of our salvation or eternity.
Worse than that, without the resurrection we are the most pitiful of people.
That is why Easter is so important! We can never forget what Christ endured for us. He died so that we could live. He suffered so we could be healed, and He was beaten so we could be forgiven.
But finally He arose from the dead so that we could have hope in Him. True hope, that only Christ can offer.
Now the good news...He is risen and alive forever more! We don't have to fear the grave, we don't have to fear standing before the Lord dead in our sins, and we don't have to walk alone in this life.
<font color="purple"> He is Risen! </font>
<font color="brown"> 20But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. </font>
<font color="blue"> 3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[1] : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Peter,[2] and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. </font>

Psalm 22
1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.
3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
4 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.
6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
9 But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's
breasts.
10 I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly.
11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.
12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
19 But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.
20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.
21 Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.
22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.
23 Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.
24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.
25 My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.
26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.
27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.
28 For the kingdom is the LORD'S: and he is the governor among the nations.
29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.
30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.
31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

I resent that statement. There already exists enough anti-semitism and in the world without the aid of like statements that rekindle hateful feelings because of events that happened over 2000 years ago. Historically, the Jews have been the most peaceful of all religions and civilizations, even including the current state of force which the state of Israel has undertaken to protect her citizens. While Jesus was living in Judea his power and influence was feared by many people, and those people expressed their fear of Jesus by using force against him, and because everyone at the time lving in Judea was considered Jewish, it is said that the Jews abused Jesus. The truth is that practicing Jews would never use unneccasary physical force against anyone. Forceful coercion and punishment is completly contradictory to what is said in the Torah, Dead Sea Scrolls, and other holy Jewish scriptures.
I don't mean to reign in on your thread dedicated to the sacrifices that Jesus made, but i would just like to raise the point that phrases like the opening quote in this post only fuels more intolerance and hatred between people.

There are bad people from all walks of life, and all religious denominations.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is true, but making the statement "Having previously been beaten by the Jews, it was now the Romans' turn." Is like saying "Christians committed violent acts of genocide against Jewish communities while making their way through Europe in pursuit of the "Holy Land" during several crusade missions." Those people were considered Christian, but were they really Christian in the eyes of God? Those "Jews" that harassed Jesus in acient Judea were not "Jews" in the eyes of God. There exist a distinction between truly being of a faith and undertaking the name of that faith to create an identity. The people who abused Christ may have been Jewish by identity, but they were not Jews in mind and spirit, nor the eyes of God.
[ QUOTE ]
Fallacy of hasty generalization.
[/ QUOTE ]
Making a statement that Jews beat and harassed Jesus, as if it was some kind of a religious agenda of the Jews, rather than the act of individual "Jews" (by identity) is a generalization on par with the one i made.

Who is responsible for the death of Jesus???
Let's put political correctness aside, and see what the ultimate authority of all subjects, the bible, the Word of God has to say on the subject. The God who is no respector of persons, nor politically correct, but absolutely perfect in all judgement and wisdom.
1. The actual ones that put Jesus on the cross.
We can see from Luke 23:20-33, the literal people, or material agents, who put Jesus on the cross...
A. The crowd that desired His death.
<font color="red"> 20 Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.
21 But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.</font>
B. The leaders that demanded His death.
<font color="red"> 10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him </font>
C. The ruler that decided His death.
<font color="red"> 23 And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.
24 And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
</font>
D. The soldiers that delivered His death.
<font color="red"> 16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.
17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,
18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!
19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.
20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.
</font>
History will forever record and document their guilt. When all books and libaries have ceased to exist, the Word of God will stand as an indictment on their guilt. They were the actual ones responsible for putting Jesus on the Cross.
But they were not the only ones responsible. There is a much, much larger group that was responsible for putting Christ on the Cross.
2. The absent ones.
The absent ones that put Jesus on the cross.
Isaiah 53:5
<font color="blue"> 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

A.W. Tozer said,
[ QUOTE ]
Let us no elquently blame Judas or Pilate. Let us not curl our lips at Judas and accuse, "he sold him for money". Let us not pity Pilate, the weak-willed, because he did not have enough courage to stand for the innocence of the man whom he declared had done no wrong. Let us no curse the Jews for delivering Jesus to be crucified. Let us no single out the Romans blaming them for putting Jesus on the cross. Oh, they were guilty, certainly! But they were our accomplices in crime. They and we put Him on the cross, not they alone.
[/ QUOTE ]
We are all responsible for Christ's death.
The pride we clung to before salvation is responsible for Christ's need to die. Our sin is the reason Jesus cried out "why have you forsaken me". Our transgressions were the reasons he was bruised. Our curse is why he recieved the strips of the whip. He was chastised because of anger and hate.
What kind of death did Jesus die?
A. His death was sacrifical death.
<font color="green"> 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
</font>
<font color="brown"> 26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. </font>
B. His death was a substiutionary death.
<font color="green"> 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
</font>
The songwriter sang:
"But drops of grief can ne'er repay
the debt of love I owe:
Here Lord, I give myself away,
Tis all that I can do."
3. The Almighty One that put Jesus on the Cross.
<font color="brown"> 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
</font>
<font color="red"> 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
</font>
Who is responsible for the death of Christ?
All of humanity, and by the allowance of the Lord.
It was a decision by the Father and Son made, and His blood is on all of our hands, not just the Jews or Gentiles. That is scriptural.
<font color="red"> 17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

Great analysis O.S!
It's a very important truth to understand as well.
1 Thessalonians 2:13-16
13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. 14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews: 15 Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men: 16 Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

The Jews were on the right road, starting with the right beginning-they had the right foundational knowledge to understand the Gospel-but they had a problem, a 'roadblock,' which is Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 8: 14 - 15
14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 15 And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
Acts 28:23-29
23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening. 24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not. 25 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers, 26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: 27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. 28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it. 29 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.
Romans 11:1-32
1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying, 3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. 4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. 5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. 7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded 8 (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day. 9 And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them: 10 Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway. 11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. 12 Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness? 13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: 14 If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them. 15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? 16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. 17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; 18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. 19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. 20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: 21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. 22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. 23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. 24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree? 25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. 28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. 29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. 30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: 31 Even so have these also now not believed, 7that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. 32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
Luke 20:9-19
9 Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time. 10 And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. 11 And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. 12 And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out. 13 Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him. 14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. 15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them? 16 He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid. 17 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? 18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. 19 And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.

"Jesus, what can I give
What can I bring
To so faithful a friend
To so loving a king
Saviour, what can be said
What can be sung
As a praise of Your name
For the things You have done"
"Oh my words could not tell
Not even in part
Of the debt of love that is owed
By this thankful heart"

Did you know the word excruciating was invented to describe the act of crucifixion?
The pain was so severe, that no word was adequate to describe it so a new word was invented.
It literally means, in Latin, excruciatus, or "out of the cross".
Awesome

Great post guys. Thanks. You can read it, try to paint a picture in your head, talk about how unworthy we are, but that display of love will never been understood by the likes of men.

Only 5 seconds after I joined this forum, this was the first article I read. It truly is mind blowing to think of how many times we complain about our pain and trials, when Christ who took all our sins went through so much more than we could even comprehend.
I often find myself complaining about the time it takes to lose weight or get bigger and what this article reminded me of was that the time it takes to do these things are insignificant and would not even be possible with out Christ shedding his blood for me on the cross.
It truly gives me a reason to be fit and use the abilities God gave me for His glory! Hallelujah!
