View Full Version : Accu-Measure = Accu-Crap?

Well..I picked up an Accu-Meadure Caliper. And in the book that came along it says to take one measurment at the waist 3 times, average it and that will give you an "accuarate" bf %. Well, if this is true .. than I am 18%.
Now for me this is not cool. Even during a bulk, I would like to keep my BF% no more than 15%. Especially since I am hopfully doing a show next year. (/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif yes, I know, I still have a long way to go as you can tell from looking at my pictures /forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif )
Anyways, I think this is a little off. I am planning on trimming back a little. For a few weeks and then come June - December bulk up again.
I dont have anyone to snap pics right now so this is the best I can do.

Like I said before I have a LONG way to go as far as size goes. Who knows how I will do come show time. I guess we'll have to see...
Anyways, feel free to fire away with comments at my chubby be-hind /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I don't think you're at 18%. You look a little more cut than me, and I'm 14-15% (going on measurements from a few months ago, no more calipers..)
ONE measurement at the waist? C'mon..
Just do the ol' 9pt. test and see what's up.
I just ordered an AccuMeasure the other day, I plan on not using any of the 'guides' in the book it comes with.

Wow, you are really coming along great. There is no way you could be 18%. I would think closer to 10%. I think you look about the same as me, maybe one percent higher. If you are 18% then I am a lot higher than I thought. Anyway, keep up the great work. How about some posed shots?

I wouldn't put you at 18%, but I also would say you are not at 10%. The Accu-measure is well pretty accurate, the only factor that is not so accurate is usually the person doing the test. Try it again, but this time when you are pinching the fat, try giving it a little shake just before testing. I have noticed that I am much more accurate when I do this. Also try having someone else do the test, this is a much more accurate assessment than doing it yourself.
All in all pictures can be deceiving, but if I had to guess I would put you at 15-16%.

Thanks for the comments guys.
I think I am just going to try to cut back on my starchy carb intake and try to up my Sweet Potato and Oatmeal intake. And just try and clean up my diet a bit in general (which already consists manily of tuna, chicken, nooldes.)
And then just intorduce 2 or 3 cardio sessions a week. Prolly HIT style. Maybe that will help stabalize fat and bring it down a bit, without having to really kill my calorie intake and muscle gains.
Am I gong to be big enough to compete in the show next year? Only time will tell. I'm trying not to look to far into the future and just focus on training and diet now.
The good news is that I found a gym (20 minutes away as apposed to 10) that is what I consider a weight lifters gym. I am gonna start training their more because he heard that I want to do the show and he said that they bring in a nutritionist to help members who are going to show get their diet in check. He want to send about 5 people to a show next year, me included. Good plablicity for the gym I guess...but I love the atmosphere there, it feels great!
"And in the book that came along it says to take one measurment at the waist 3 times, average it and that will give you an "accuarate" bf %."
This formula is terribly flawed. I would read Yu Yevon's body fat measuring article and redo your measurements.

Yes they are..which is why I am going to try and scale them out of my diet.
And substitue Sweet potatoes, yams, and oatmeal.
Hopefully I can still gain a little or at the very least maintin by keeping my protien high.

No way...no way!
i say 13-14% max.
You look great, keep up the good work!
Caoi!

I'd say 13%. That's from the pictures only, before I saw the other opinions. I have a Accu-Measure and it just can't work correctly at lower BF percentages because of it's design.

caliper test, as well as those electronic thingies suck for measuring BF. The only accurate way is in the water - but I don't know where such test can be done...
