Hey there,
Just got a quick question to ask you all. My gf wants to lose 10-15lbs. She is 5'3" and prolly between 120-130 (I'm guessing, I'm smart enough not to ask her weight lol) but yea, she wants to slim down her legs, and a little bit around her stomach. She doesn't have a gym membership. And i don't know if her mom would get her one. (she is 17, i'm 18) SHe isn't in any sports, but she does eat right, very healthy, never touches fast food or anything like that.

She wants to try to lose atleast 10lbs by summer so she can wear a swim suit to the beach and not be embarrased. Personally i think she looks great, and I tell her that over and over, but there is no way I will ever win at that conversation.

Any help at all would be greatly apperciated. Some excersises she can do at home, or something we can do togther or anything at all.

Thanks hope to hear from you all soon!

get her doing some cardio first thing in the morning for 20 min 3 times a week. also start her on a lifting program...maybe just 3 days a week to start (if she doesn't have any experience) just give her basic core exercises to start, and work her into more things after a few months. well, i guess if she doesn't have a gym membership it may be a litte harder. do you have a gym at your school she can use? you can get her a basic set of dumbells, and she can do a lot with those maybe. also make sure she tracks her calories, you can still eat too much healty stuff.

Took the words right out of my mouth.
Nutrition is 80+% of everything we do. Just reducing her caloric intake by as much as 200 cals a day (which might be something like salad dressing or a soda, you get the idea) can help the body to in terms of weight loss. You have to create a deficite.
Also, i feel that if she is not doing any type of weight training she should start now. At home a good pair of dumbells ~ 5's, 8's, 10's for starters could do her wonders.
Even picking up a beginners book or even "Body for Life" by Bill Phillips that shows diet and home workout info would be a great help.
It's baby steps in terms of reducing.
Also, sometimes it's not what the scale says so much as how our clothes fit. She can reduce her bodyfat and gain lean mass and never drop on the scale.
Hope this answers some questions.
10lbs by summer is gonna be too easy!

Hi there,

Tell your girlfriend that when she works her legs to use low or no weight and to aim for 3 sets of 15-18 reps as this will keep her heart rate up and help burn fat as well as lean her legs.
Things like squats, lunges, walking lunges, step ups are great and should help.
Cardio is a must for faster fat loss though and she should start off with about 3 days at 30mins.
Hope this helps. /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
