Once again, I find one of those informorcials furthering perpetuating the myth that lifting heavy weights to muscular failure will make women big and bulky, AARRRRGGHHHH!!! /forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif

So I'm flipping thru the channels and I run into this informorcial about some 6 week program called "Slim 6". So I listened for a while. I always like to listen to see what kind of crap they start spewing. And I hear, "in our program we train with just light resistance training (in other words the pink dumbbells) and we don't go to muscular exhaustion to AVOID getting bulky which we all know the traditional heavy weight training does." ACK!! /forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif How can they say that when it's just not true! Well, I'll never stop trying to UNDO what the media has been telling women for years, don't lift heavy or you'll get big and bulky, what a bunch of balony! If I hadn't taken the chance about 2 1/2 years ago and started lifting, training with my husband (then boyfriend), I'd have never gotten the look I have now! Cause I used to do all the cardio and light resistance training on machines and guess what? It NEVER worked! Yeah, it kept me thin, but not TONED! I wanted abs, I wanted toned arms, etc. And all the cardio and light resistance training did NOT do that for me! I started lifting and low and behold, started seeing shape and muscle definition, I was thrilled! Then once I got my diet in line, wow! NOW, I've got the definition I want (altho I'd LOVE to have more).

I guess it just depends on what you want. If the people doing that "Slim 6" program are only interested in losing the extra lbs and going down a few sizes, then sure, it'll probably work as anytime you start exercising and dieting from a previously inactive/non-dieting type lifestyle you're bound to get results. But if they want that muscle definition, that's only gonna come from a proper diet & lifting heavier than little pink dumbbells!

Gosh how frustrating, makes me want to be a personal trainer EVEN MORE!! I so want to show women the TRUTH in how to get that sexy, shapely, TONED body! Hehe, and as a matter-of-fact, I was so riled up by that commercial that I called Gold's gym again to see if they've gotten any further on the plans as far as if they are gonna train and hire their own fitness trainers when they move here to Dover. I want to do that WAY more than I want to be a veterinary technician and so far the vet clinic hasn't called me back yet. Until they do, I'm gonna keep calling Gold's gym to see if I can possibly work there as a trainer for them! I'd rather do that! And it's much closer than how far I'd have to drive to the vet clinic. So if this vet clinic keeps fooling around and takes too long to call me to work, I just may find myself another job in the meantime, at Gold's as a trainer, I hope, I hope, I hope!! /forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Okay, done with rant, thanks for reading. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This makes me think of the looks Linda gets when shes doing SLDL's at 160lb. All the cardio queens just stare in awe at her tossing the iron around.
Busting out 100lb bent rows also make the girlies gawk.

I love watching her workout /forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I hear you on that one. If I would have known that weights would drastically increase my push-ups I would have hopped in the gym busting iron a long time ago.

I have women coming up to me asking what am I doing and how they can improve their physiques. I take them to the gym and their eyes bug out and they say oh I do not want to get big and bulky. Lets not even go there with the eating habits. Screaming really loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How the heck do you think I lost all this fat and not looking like a smaller pear like last time!!!!

I really think you would be awesome as a PT.

Down with the pink weights!!

i know that it took me about 8 months doing plain old cardio at the gym before I took advantage of the machines and heavier weights. And even though I gained some weight, everyone has been telling me how much better, toned and healthy I look. It's nice to be able to do 110 lbs deadlifts and still look like a girl! I think that people equate light weights with "femininity", when we know that it doesn't work.

Cause if you are, I won an all expense paid trip to Kauai through the company she works for and met her in Hawaii. I used to work out with other videos produced by the same company, not to hers.
Yeah, I am not a fan of Slim in 6, they are quick to point out that it is great for weight loss, but not for those seeking to gain muscles. High intensity cardio for an hour a day, six days a week. I have heard of women complaining of losing muscles through her program on the Slim in 6 online message boards also coordinated by the same company.
I tried out her lowerbody routine in Hawaii, and thereafter called her Queen of the Lunges. She is a bit of a prima donna and her personality was really fake. But killer bod, though. She had the best *** of any woman I have ever met and that is basically the nicest thing I can say about her, unfortunately.
I was sitting next to her on the beach and a bunch of us were talking about calories. I was talking about consuming between 2,300 to 2,700 calories a day. She said that she could never eat more than 1,500 or she would get fat. I replied not if you eat the right kind of calories and she pretended not to hear me.
Whatever, I don't really care.
The guy who was the trainer of the videos I used to work out to was also in Hawaii, he noticed my arms and said that I was pretty buff, I told him it was because I got into bodybuilding after I stopped working out to his tapes. He didn't look too happy.
He was a sincerely nice guy but his video routines were really more for very overweight people, not for someone like me who was looking to get built. But to be fair, I did become interested in bodybuilding because I was liking the results of the weight lifting portion of his videos, they were not intense but they did give me an insight into my potential as far as building muscles go.

I guess so, only saw it once, don't know what her name was. In any case, GREAT TESTIMONY! Thanks for sharing that!

Yeah, and the reason she CAN'T eat more than 1500 calories is for two reasons, one, like you said, she's probably not eating the RIGHT types of food and two, she probably doesn't have enough muscle mass to burn many calories! The more muscle you have the more calories you burn even at rest! I would NOT want to be in her shoes! At least I can EAT! Matter of fact, I'm eating as much as I want (of the right types of foods with some cheats here and there) and I've only gained ONE pound of muscle and actually LOST 1/2 lb of fat in the last month and that's averaging around 2500 calories (when I'm in my usual exercise routine)! This week I'll probably have averaged even more! Yet I'm maintaining right around 18% body fat! Let's see HER do THAT! Hehehehehe. Ya can't beat muscle baby, ya just can't! I wouldn't trade these muscles for ANYTHING!
